Position Description: Summer Youth Program Assistant

Reports to: Regional Director with direction from County Youth Outreach Coordinator

Status: Temporary, Non-Exempt

Employment period: May 24 – July 30, 2021

Hours: 40 hours per week during the business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M-F

Schedule to be determined upon hire, will include occasional nights and weekends

Compensation: $13.00/Hour 

This position shall serve Story County Extension service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist Extension staff in the planning, coordination, and implementation of all summer youth educational programming – including all day camps, county fair related activities and events, and short programs as they occur in-person or virtually

• Assist with 4-H & FFA fair data entry and coordinate correspondence with 4-H and FFA members, leaders, volunteers and staff regarding county and state fair requirements

• Assist with 4-H events with direction from county staff and Project Superintendent(s) including scheduling, correspondence with judges and participants, logistics and execution

• Prepare letters, emails and other communication with clients and volunteers

• Assist with daily office procedures as needed

• Assist in maintaining a professional atmosphere through courteous treatment and efficient service in the office and on the phone

• Any other related duties deemed necessary by the Regional Director or Youth Outreach Coordinator

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma/equivalent plus at least 1-year post-secondary education by start date

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Team Player and People Oriented

• Problem-Solving Skills, Ability to Multi-Task and Organize

• Computer literacy required (MS Office, data entry, fluent with e-mail programs)

• Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle with proof of vehicle liability coverage

• Must be able to be approved under our child protection policy with a background check

• May not exhibit at the Story County Fair in 4-H/FFA shows in 2021

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience planning or coordinating events or programs

• Data entry experience

• Experience with 4-H or FFA
