ORITAMEFA BAPTIST MODEL SCHOOL, IBADAN

SCHOOL RULES AND REGULATIONS

In order to achieve the aims and objectives of founding the school viz spiritual development, moral upbringing and academic excellence, it is important for every student to keep the following rules and regulations:-

GENERAL BEHAVIOUR

Ours is a church school, hence we expect all the members to live together as brothers and sisters and do everything to the glory of God.

Therefore, all students should:

a. Act lovingly both inside and outside the school.

b. Obey the school authorities, the members of staff and the prefects.

c. Refrain from disrespectful acts like bullying, maltreatment, fighting and any form of violence

d. Report in school daily with

i. Bible [R. S. V],

ii. A copy of Baptist Hymnal [to be purchased from the school bookstore]

UNIFORM

a. Each student should have at least two sets of uniform bought from the school.

b. All students must wear the correct uniform both in the school and whenever they appear as a group in public. Boys must always button up and tuck in their shirts. [Note: Girls should not slim fit their gown while boys should not appear in pencil trousers.]

c. Hijab is not part of the school uniform, so it should not be combined with the uniform.

d. All students must appear neatly and decently every day of the week.

e. i. Boys and girls should have natural low haircut [no styles or design]

ii. Girls who decide to plait their hair should have it neatly done in the style

dictated by the prefects, otherwise their hair would be cut at the first offence.

f. All students should wear only

i. Black shoes [maximum heels should be one inch]

ii. Blue cardigan as supplied by the school.

iii. White socks [have at least three pairs] No stripes.

g. Only girls can wear simple [stud] ear-rings only

h. Whenever berets are supplied each girl must own one and wear it to the church service and outside engagements. It must not be used to cover untidy hair.

i. The following items are prohibited:-

i. Hair band or ribbons ii. Jacket iii. Boots or clogs

iv. Any kinds of make up v. wigs vi. Tattoos or satanic marks

vii. Cell phones are not allowed.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

a. All students must attend school and classes regularly and punctually. Any student absent from school will be required to bring a note from his/her parent/guardian on return to school. Cases of sickness should be reported [through a written note or a call] to the Principal, VP or the class teacher.

b. i. all students must attend the school assembly which starts at 7.30a.m. Lateness to the assembly will not be tolerated.

ii. School bell must be obeyed promptly.

c. All students should remain in school until closing time unless a permit has been obtained from the Principal or his Vice Principals..

d. All students must leave the school premises within 30 minutes after closing time.

e. Visitors should not move near the classrooms except on Open Days. They should report first at the Principal’s Office.

f. These activities are prohibited on the school compound:

i. Loitering ii. Unauthorized selling and buying

iii. Playing games iv. Visiting food vendors outside break time

v. Smoking/drinking of alcohol/spirit/drugs

iv. Speaking of vernacular except during Yoruba lessons

v. Running errands for a student or a teacher at the expense of his/her lessons(s)

vi. Fighting

vii. Gambling

viii. Truancy

ix. Stealing

x. Immoral practices or utterances

xi. Reading of pornographic materials

w. School property must be protected and handled carefully. Each student has been allocated a table and chair and must be taken care of. If damaged, they will be repaired by the student. School building must not be defaced.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENTS TO THE SCHOOL

a. They must participate fully and effectively in all activities of the school [spiritual, social and academic.

b. They must attend all classes punctually

c. Bring writing materials to the class

d. Bring text books and other materials to the class

e. Attempt and submit all assignments/projects on time. Do not copy other students’ assignments.

f. Work hard and prepare for all tests and examinations.

g. Sit for all tests and examinations

h. Report any act of maltreatment to the class or subject teachers.

i. Refrain from misconduct and report any acts of misconduct to the class or subject teachers.

j. Inform your parents of any announcements that concern them.

k. Welcome and respect the visitors that enter the school compound.

l. Be a good ambassador of the school

m. Not eat in the classroom outside break time.

n. Keep the compound tidy by

i. throwing snack wrappers inside dust bin;

ii. picking any litter around you.

o. Obey all the school rules and regulations.

p. Refrain from cheating in tests and examinations.

q. Disrespect to school authority in any form by any student in or outside the school premises is a serious offence.

r. The staff room is out of bounds to students except when they are sent for or summoned there by a teacher

s. The school uniform must be respected. Therefore, eating along the street, fighting or engaging in any misbehaviour while still in school uniform is prohibited.

t. Any free periods must be wisely utilized. There should be no noise making at anytime.

u. Do not sit for any external examination without clearance from school.

v. Do not leave any material in the school over night.

w. You must possess all the recommended textbooks, big notes and other materials.

PUNISHMENTS

Depending on the gravity of the offence, punishment may range from:

i. confiscation of wrong or prohibited items.

ii. picking of litters/sweeping iii. caning iv. cutting of grass

v. being sent back home vi washing of toilet vii. payment for repair or replacement of damaged property. viii. Suspension from the school for specified periods. Parents will be invited before this is done. ix. cutting of pencil trousers. x. phones will be destroyed.

Punishment for malpractices in assignments, tests and examinations will range from cancellation of the paper to repetition of the class.

Extreme cases may lead to dismissal from school e.g. falsification of school records.

UNDERTAKING BY PARENTS/GUARDIAN

I have read through the rules and regulations and promise as follows:

I am interested in the total development of my child/ward therefore I shall:

1. encourage him/her to obey the rules and regulations.

2. encourage him/her to follow the time-table

3. attend all PTPF meetings

4. visit the school during Open Day.

5. visit the school whenever I am invited.
