Due to this email, the PTO Board requested that our retainer be extended until the project is complete with?no additional fees to be paid. Here is the statement from the law firm confirming that agreement and the email that was sent to explain what the backlog means to resolving our tax situation.?Bomar Law Firm, LLC statement:?Any amount in retainer or fees paid to our firm will certainly cover any and all work necessary to complete the required scope.?Please let me know if need any further information.?Subject: RE: IRS UpdateIt has been almost a month since IRS reopened from the government shutdown, and 13 days since Congress narrowly averted a second shutdown.? You do not want us filing requests during a shutdown or even in the month following a shutdown (the exception is where we must meet filing deadlines, in other types of cases). While the shutdown lasted over a month, it caused delays far, far greater than the shutdown time itself.? It caused immense backlogs on everything from processing POAs to opening mail.? They had delays for almost a week after back at work even getting their fax machines up to receive POAs.? Likewise, they have had massive delays responding to virtually all requests.? That is true for every tax attorney who deals with them.?? IRS informed Congress and published that the shutdown will cause backlog of a year, which may or may not overstate the problem, but illustrates that it is very serious. Here are some articles you can read on the IRS delays caused by the shutdown that exponentially exceed the time of the shutdown itself.? There are over 5?million?pieces of unopened mail that are still sitting at IRS, with experts estimating 250 days to clear it up (versus the IRS estimate of one year, and some estimates of 18 months).? When trying to imagine the scale of backlog if IRS shuts down over a month, remember that many IRS offices get so much mail that they have their own zip code.? And the people at IRS clearing it up are still getting enough mail to fill up each day, so it’s not like they can focus solely on the backlog. will make sure that completing this project is a top priority.? We will discuss it in a meeting tomorrow here, and will keep you updated. With warmest regards,W.
