Oakalla, Texas May 1941

In 1878 P.B.D.D. Hoover put up the first gin, the first in this part of the county. They did not have preaching often in Oakalla. At first it was held under a tree, or in peoples’ homes. The first school house was built on Gregory Branch, northeast of Oakalla, about the year 1875. The first teacher was Mr. George Smith, brother of Jim Smith. ................
