The Original Hydrolyzed Therapeutic Pet Food
Purina? Pro Plan? Veterinary Diets HA Hydrolyzed? was the first truly hypoallergenic therapeutic pet food created with a single hydrolyzed protein source and a single carbohydrate source for the nutritional management of dogs with adverse food reaction.
Adverse food reaction can Include both skin and gastrointestinal signs.1
Hydrolyzed formulas are used for children with adverse food reactions to milk and soy.2
Our Nutritional Approach
A 2006 evaluation of published studies on adverse food reaction showed the most common allergens in dogs are: beef, dairy, wheat, egg and chicken.1 Soy allergy was less common.1 Even in soy allergic dogs, no antibody binding to hydrolyzed soy peptides under 20 kilodaltons has been detected.2 Additionally, soy hydrolysate did not elicit an allergic response in the majority of soy-allergic dogs.3,4,5 The average molecular weight of HA Hydrolyzed soy hydrolysate is approximately 13.7 kilodaltons.
While food allergies are relatively uncommon in the general canine population, intact corn and rice are listed as potential allergens in dogs.1 That's why HA Hydrolyzed uses cornstarch as a highly refined carbohydrate source with less than one percent protein. A soy hydrolysate diet containing cornstarch did not elicit an allergic response in the majority of corn allergic dogs.4
Our unique formula contains 22-26% of fat as MCTs, a highly digestible fat source. Purina? Pro Plan? Veterinary Diets HA Hydrolyzed? Canine Formula was shown to improve clinical signs in dogs with previously refractory IBD.5
