Endeavour Elementary 2020 Science Fair Wednesday, March 20th - 5PM – 7PM Preparing an investigation for the science fair is excellent practice for the fifth grade WCAS science test. All fifth graders are required to enter the science fair. The actual work for the science fair is done at home. The purpose for the science fair:Demonstrate the scientific process by developing and designing a science experiment.Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of the experiment.Present results by preparing and organizing a presentation board and exhibit. Science Fair Time Schedule & Due Dates:January 13th – January 21st: Brainstorm possible topics and discuss options with your parents. Decide what question you want to investigate. Think about what you are interested in. Complete your “proposed investigation” packet and turn in as soon as you are ready. Due by Jan. 22nd. In order to participate in the science fair, each student must register online from January 7th-27th. ?You may also pre-order a presentation board online. (The presentation boards will be available for pick-up the week of February 11h. (Boards are not allowed on the bus). Parents will be informed of exact pick up dates and time by email and through the Jaguar Print. Science Fair updates will always be posted on the PTSA website?and in my weekly?newsletter.) ***Friday, January 24th: Due date to turn in “proposed investigation” question, hypothesis, and materials list to Mrs. Jensen for approval ***Snow day update-turn in earlier if ready.**Once approved, you may type all this information. (Save all your documents to use later for your presentation board.) January 28th-February 9th: Purchase or find necessary materials and purchase science presentation poster board. Conduct experiment. Keep and record investigation data. Observe. Write your conclusion. TELL WHY. Begin typing up procedures, observations and data charts, and conclusion. Write information in the packet as well.February 10th – March 1st: Complete packet and reflection. (This packet allows me to grade your investigation project before you actually display it at the Science Fair.) * Pick up Science Fair display board if you ordered one online during the week of February 11th. Monday, March 2nd: Turn in Science Fair packet/Reflection to Mrs. JensenMarch 9th – March 19th: Finish display board and put together exhibit. Include title. (See example board in class.) Prepare exhibit to sit in front of board at the science fair. (Show project materials - especially the manipulated variable.)Thursday, March 19th: Come to school to set up project in the gym from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 20th: During the school day: Explain your project to a judge, receive a certificate, and tour all projects with your class. Friday, March 20th: Science Fair 5:00-7:00 p.m. Pick up project after Fair to bring home. NOTE: If you cannot attend the Science Fair to pick up your project, please arrange with a friend to take home your materials for you.Note: I am happy to serve as a consultant to your project! Feel free to run ideas past me or ask me questions in class. Mrs. JensenScience Fair HintsItems for your display board must be typed. DO NOT HANDWRITE TITLES OR YOUR NAME. (You can hand draw charts or diagrams.) Use a clear font. (Times New Roman or Arial are good fonts to use.)Suggestions: Investigation Title: Use Arial Rounded font, size 100Smaller titles: Use Arial Rounded font, size 60Chart writing, page writing, etc.: Word Document / Use Arial font 24 for titles and Arial font size 14 for typing information.Back your white display board items with construction paper. This makes for a colorful and artistic display.Bring items to show from your experiment to set in front of your display board. Provide labels if needed for items.This is a formal, scientific experiment. Wording should be formal. ................
