Upon completion of this course, students may take Statistics, AP Statistics or Pre-Calculus. Students may not go from Trigonometry to Calculus. Topics covered include trigonometric functions, graphing trigonometric functions, right triangle trig, oblique triangles, trig identities, and inverse trig functions. Textbook problems are to be copied and all work must be shown on assignments. Lists of answers will not be accepted. It is the student’s responsibility to check their own work and ask questions on anything that is not understood. Proficiency in mathematics is attained only by practice. You learn mathematics by doing mathematics and correcting your mistakes. Late work will not be accepted and absent work must be completed before student takes the chapter test.TESTS: A quiz or test will normally be given each week. All important steps must be shown for full credit. A cumulative final will be given at the end of each semester. **Students are encouraged to attempt all problems on the tests and failure to attempt problems may result in the loss of additional points. METHOD OF EVALUATION: Grades will be calculated on a scaled system with the following percentages: Grade ScaleQuarter breakdownSemester breakdown A = 90 – 100%Tests & Quizzes90%Tests & Quizzes50%B = 80 – 89%Assignments/Assignments/C = 70 – 79%Class Participation10%Class Participation15%D = 60 – 69%Semester Final35%F = below 60%BECAUSE OF THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING FOR FINAL EXAMS, THE FOLLOWING RULE WILL PREVAIL REGARDLESS OF THE STUDENT’S PERCENTAGE:The semester grade cannot be more than one letter grade higher than the final exam grade.For example:In order to maintain a semester grade of A(-), the final exam grade must be at least B(-).In order to maintain a semester grade of B(-), the final exam grade must be at least C(-).All grades may be viewed online.GLOBAL PROGRAM STUDIES (GPS) INTEGRATED CURRICULUM INCLUDES: Navigation of the historical development of the international language of mathematics.ATTENDANCE/TARDIES: Students need to be in class daily, on time, with appropriate materials. It is difficult to catch up in mathematics once one falls behind. Mathematics is a building process from day to day, week to week, year to year. Keeping current is essential. You are expected to be in your assigned desk, materials out, ready to go when the tardy bell rings. If not, you are considered tardy. The school tardy policy will be followed (start over at beginning of semester). See PAWSPORT.SCHOOL RULES: Campus rules and policies in the PAWSPORT will be adhered to in this classroom; see appropriate pages for a detailed list. Remember that no food, drink, or gum will be allowed; all electronic devices must be turned off and placed out of sight during class; and all staff will be enforcing the school dress code throughout the entire school day.CITIZENSHIP:Grades shall be assigned by each teacher. These marks set behavior standards that describe an appropriate educational environment for all students. See PAWSPORT for marking system.MAKE-UPS: When you return following an absence: Missed work is expected to be made up. Students are responsible for finding out what they have missed and submitting make-up work after an absence. Assignments are sent out using the remind software and students can also message me/other students to get missing assignments.EXTRA CREDIT: Students will not be allowed to salvage a poor grade by doing extra credit at the end of the term. Extra credit opportunities may be given sparingly through the semester as enrichment activities and is generally added to the Homework portion of the grade. MATERIALS: The following materials are needed and must be brought to class daily:1?” Binder with Pockets and sections: Assignments, Returned Work & Spare PaperPencils College Ruled Composition or Spiral Note Book (This needs to be used only for math) Whiteboard MarkerScientific Calculator Trigonometry Textbook TEXTBOOK/MATERIALS RESPONSIBILITY: Students are financially responsible for lost or damaged textbooks and any other materials borrowed from the classroom or checked out from the library.CHEATING: All students at Folsom High School are held accountable to the school wide Academic Honesty Policy as stated in the PAWSPORT. Please consult the policy for a detailed list of what constitutes cheating and consequences for each step. A single instance of cheating counts as a Step 1 Offense and follows a student throughout their entire class schedule and through all of their years at Folsom High.
