I am a freelance translator with a love of language and 30 years experience in translation (English-Urdu-English). I have a Gold industry standard IoLET Level 7 Diploma in Translation (DipTrans, Equivalent to PostGrad) qualification in English to Urdu with a distinction.

With over a decade of media industry experience and knowledge in most filmmaking disciplines such as Writing, Editing, Direction and Acting, I can provide subtitling and voice over work of a professional standard. Highly technical degrees in IT place me ideally to tackle any technical material. I have considerable experience in translating Medical documents for organizations such as NHS and transcribing audio files for legal and similar sectors.

Well mannered, articulate & fully aware of diversity & multicultural issues I am always up for new challenges and enjoy translation work to achieve accurate andeffective communication. ➢ 2008-2016: Translated several documents, radio shows, films and TV scripts from English to Urdu.

➢ 2014: Translated various questionnaires and information documents for University of West of Scotland

➢ 2013: English to Urdu dialogue translation for a Pakistani Feature Film 'Operation 021'

➢ 2010 - ongoing: URDU/ENGLISH TV adverts voiceovers and copywriting

➢ 2011: English to Urdu translation and subtitles for a community film in Glasgow for UrbanSoft.

➢ 2011: Urdu to English dialogue translation and subtitling for Award Winning 'Lights, Camera, Action!', the first Asian Sitcom in Urdu in UK.

➢ 2009: English to Urdu and Urdu to English Subtitles (translation) for the BAFTA Scotland New Talent award nominated feature film ‘An Act of Terror’

➢ 2003: Translated Fireman Sam and Dennis the Menace cartoon episodes in Hindi/Urdu and Punjabi. Translated and sang the title song of Fireman Sam. Did voice-over work for characters for both programs. (Mòr Media Limited )

➢ 2000-on going: Translated various public message documents for a variety of sectors (NHS, Universities etc) from English to Urdu and vice versa.

My company specialises in versioning television programming into other languages, mostly Scottish Gaelic. 

Sarmed and I worked together on a project a few years ago, a commission from Afasic Scotland to make Urdu and Punjabi versions (videos) of the children's television programmes, Fireman Sam and Dennis the Menace.  The target audience was children in Scotland whose mother tongue is Urdu or Punjabi, but who had particular speech, language and communication needs.  The essence of the work was more than translation; it had to take account of the language level of the age of the viewers: two to six years of age, and the replacement dialogue had to fit the same duration as the original English.   Additional requirements included technical translation of terminology used in television for the end credit sequence.

 Sarmed created the scripts, voiced one of the main characters, and provided written credits (graphics), all in his native Urdu.  Throughout the project, his command over the language, his flexibility, his skill and professionalism proved invaluable.  His input ensured that we created a professional, and very popular, set of videos.  I cannot recommend his work highly enough.
