SCPD Alumni 2016 Year in Review

Presidents Message: Jack Scott

2016 have been another successful year for our organization. Our communications program with our members, including a continual update of our website (), mail-chimp program "heard-it on-F-2" bulletins and Retirees Blog. These programs could not operate without the fantastic efforts of Kevin Ryniker, Mark Hawthorne and our communications coordinator and newsletter editor Eileen Callaghan.

Our first annual Holiday Mobilization, in December 2015, was a resounding success with almost two hundred attendees. The event was made even more special by the awesome performance of the Suffolk County Police Emerald Society's Bagpipe Band. The second annual Holiday Mobilization is scheduled for this year. See flyer enclosed or check our website.

We have moved to publishing our newsletter electronically, which is a great cost savings for us. If we do not have an e-mail address on your file we will continue to mail ACTIVE members the newsletter. If you prefer a printed copy please contact our editor Eileen Callaghan at editor@ or call our duty desk at 352-345-1778

If you don't receive the weekly e-mail "F-2 bulletins" that contain weekly events and other notifications, it is because the Alumni doesn't have your e-mail address or the one we have is wrong. Please e-mail the address to webmaster@.

Jim and Nora Woods, part of the founding group of the SCPD Alumni, will be relocating back to their hometown of Bayport in New York. They have been staunch members and supporters of our organization since inception 26 years ago. They are relocating from Hernando Beach, Florida to be closer to their wonderful family. Jim has assured us that he will continue as a board member and remain active with the Alumni. Our fondest wishes to Jim & Nora.

Breakfast, luncheon and mobilization Drills Many of our members are stepping up to coordinate events for our members. This includes Spring Hill FL group, 5th & 6th precinct alumni, HP luncheons & Breakfast group, 8th Pct (Villagers). You can check our website and F-2 archives for these events as well as other fraternal and line organizations events. The Alumni will assist an any of these type endeavors.

Following up on the recent notice regarding the formulation of the Suffolk County Chapter of the "Brotherhood of the Fallen", Based upon discussions with their staff, I am pleased to announce that the Suffolk County Police Alumni has offered to become a strategic partner is this movement. Past President, Board of Director and one of our founding members, Warren McCue, will be our Liaison officer. Please address any questions or comments to Warren at wmcq1727@.

We are still seeking members to fill open seats on our Board of Directors. Anyone with a few spare hours a month is encouraged to contact us to assits in supporting the efforts of ouy organization.

SCPD Quartermaster

Our Quartermaster, Bob Timm, has been diligently working on suggestions from members for new items. A few months ago he released the Alumni patch which can be affixed to any item and apparel you wish. This eliminates the QM from having to have an inventory of various sizes of shirts. It also reduces shipping costs. The QM has also now released new Alumni Mugs, Patch magnets and embroidered hats. The updated order form is in this bulletin on the website. Great Holiday gift idea! Please remember that ALL proceeds from the sale of QM products are applied to our Jack & Isabelle Barry scholarship account.

TAPS

The recent loss of member Bill McDonald is a great loss to this organization. Many members can recall his fervent actions on behalf of our retirees. Since 1979, Bill was involved in any organization, event or issue related to any SCPD or its retirees. For many years Bill authored the "Sunshine News" which appeared in most every SCPD organizations bulletins (before the days of the internet & website). Bill & his wife would travel around the US, and always make stops to visit with nearby retiree's. He would follow up with a report in his news article. Bill also served as President of this organization continuing to advance services and communications to our retiree's. His devoted wife, Ginny, advised recently that she would take the "Heard it on F-2" notices and Alumni Newsletters to his nursing home. He would always be delighted as she read him each issue. Bill will be missed and never forgotten.

The recent loss of past Alumni President Adam Pfundstein (Highway Patrol) has created yet another void in our organization. Adam led this organization for many years. His severe medical condition caused him to resign as President several years ago. Despite this issue, he continued to be active on the Board of Directors. Our sincerest thanks and condolences to his spouse Donna and the rest of his family.
