MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!!!

Annunciation Parish@Saint Gabriel ChurchJune 19, 2016Pastors Thoughts With the year amazingly now half over, the Lord, through His Gospel passage read this weekend, proposes two reminders to us: to recognize who He is in our lives and to be prepared to follow Him in carrying the Cross. The news has been filled with the realities of great tragedies and sufferings, violence and pain. Never have we needed to more the reminder to stand firm on that which is the foundation of all answers to the human condition and its failings: Jesus, the Son of God is the Savior! This might see mere spiritual fantasy - but to look to God come to earth and the grace and spiritual renewal He brings us is the key to far more consolation, far more healing, far more righting of wrongs, far more justice, far more peace, than all the many things we human beings are attempting to do. While naturally we human beings need to be working to heal the hurts and prevent the evils of the world, we need Christ for only He can actually achieve this. He has done this by the power of His Cross which draws all our evil, pain and suffering to Himself, and by His Resurrection, the glorious explosion of His power which overcomes the darkness. Thus He invites us to remember who He is and what He has done - the only answer to the human struggle of life that works! And He also reminds us that we must walk with Him, bearing our personal crosses, made of the efforts, challenges, testings and human limitations of our lives. By our willingness to carry the cross in union with Him, with Him helping us, can our lives and the world be saved and redeemed. It is not easy for suffering people in the world to see this. Its far easy to propose another government plan, to spend more money on anti-terrorism, or on military defense, to invest in more social programs and a hundred other things. These may all be good, and even help to some extent. But the ultimate answer and the ultimate solution has always even been, and only been, faith in Jesus Christ and walking in His path.2ND Collection NEXT WEEKENDPeter’s Pence CollectionEnvelopes are available at all exits this weekendPARISH HAPPENINGSFr.
