CITY OF BETHLEHEM
CITY OF BETHLEHEM
Inter-Office Memorandum
SUBJECT: Landmarks and Property of Historical Interest
TO: Robert J. Donchez, President of Council
FROM: Jean Belinski, Member of Council
DATE: July 23, 2008
I would like to request that a meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee be scheduled to discuss establishing an Ordinance to preserve historic buildings, structures, churches, homes, landmarks, property of historical or antiquarian interest, etc. located throughout the City of Bethlehem.
I am proposing that an Ordinance be prepared for consideration by City Council to designate landmarks, and to preserve types of structures or property that may have historic value or significance rather than allowing them to be demolished or utilized for other purposes.
Attached is the reference in the Third Class City Code to Historical Property, samples of legislation from the City of Scranton and the City of Pottstown, Pennsylvania Historic Resource Survey Form, and information on the Federal law pertaining to listing on the National Register of places that are at least 50 years old.
Thank you.
