TECHNICAL COLLEGE COMPLAINT PROCESSThe South Dakota Board of Technical Education recognizes there may be conditions across the South Dakota Technical College System in need of improvement. Students, and others, should have means by which their concerns may be effectively expressed, considered, and dealt with fairly. Such means can maintain fair relationships between the technical colleges, prospective and current students, and the state of South Dakota.For all complaints, the first course of action is to attempt to resolve the complaint directly with the individual technical college through informal or formal processes. If the matter is not resolved through a formal, local processes, an individual may choose to file a complaint with the South Dakota Board of Technical Education (BOTE). BOTE will only handle those complaints that concern educational programs or practices and that have exhausted an institution’s formal process for complaints. BOTE does not handle anonymous complaints, nor does it intervene in matters concerning an individual’s grades or examination results, as these are the prerogative of the college’s faculty. A complaint of consumer fraud should be directed to the South Dakota Attorney General’s PLAINT FORMThe South Dakota Board of Technical Education (BOTE) has the authority to investigate complaints involving postsecondary technical colleges within South Dakota. Each technical college has a process in place to resolve complaints locally. Before a complaint is filed with BOTE, the complainant must attempt to resolve the matter with the technical college. If the matter cannot be resolved, a complaint may then be filed with BOTE. Complaints must be filed within one year of the event/concern.
