This supersedes HCS MB H18-051.BACKGROUND:In 2015, the Adult Protective Services (APS) program provided select APS investigators with iPhones during a pilot project to explore options to improve business efficiencies. The business and safety benefits of the iPhone were recognized and APS embraced iPhone use as regular business practice for all APS investigators. This information bulletin is being updated for 2019.WHAT’S NEW, CHANGED, OR CLARIFIED:The emergency SOS feature is available on iPhones and can be set up by the user. The design of the emergency SOS feature allows for a quick call to 911.Users can also add their own emergency contacts. Once the call to 911 ends, emergency contacts will be sent a text message with your current location (which is updated for a period of time). The emergency SOS feature activates through a series of button presses, which vary based on iPhone model. The default setting will bring up a slider bar to dial 911, but there is also an option to enable “auto call” to 911. Instructions for the various iPhone models are included in the link below for staff who are interested in setting up the emergency SOS feature on their state-issued iPhone. For your personal phones, or if you are issued a phone other than an iPhone, you should also be able to set up a feature similar to iPhone’s SOS. Be sure to review your phone manual, or search the internet for the manufacturer’s website.ACTION: This management bulletin is for information purposes.
