Students are expected to name and describe characteristics of each season

Children have experienced and understand that when the weather is cold you need a jumper, and when the weather is hot you must wear a hat.

Objectives:

By the end of the lesson the children will be able

• Name each season

• How many seasons there are

• Understand each season requires a capital letter

• Define a characteristic of each season

Preparation/Resources

• Sunshine on Line Level 2-Maths-A whole Year

• Powerpoint presentation shows seasons, pictures, you tube clip, and which months belong to each season

• Worksheet – The Weather Report – Seasons of the Year

• Lead and coloured pencils

• Scissors

• Glue

• Classroom Calendar

PROCEDURE

Introduction/Motivation: Minutes: 10

• Whole class discussion talking about the seasons and their weather characteristics.

• Ask questions such as activities performed in each season

• When is it hot and when is it cold

Main Body of the Lesson: Minutes: 20

• Storybook from Sunshine on Line and interactive activity 2

• Powerpoint presentation showing pictures of different the seasons characterisitics

• Explain and model worksheet activities ask children who understands what they have to do before moving them to their table.

• Provide children with encouragement and positive reinforcement while monitoring their activity progress. These comments will deliver feedback to the child.

Formative Assessment

Observations, during lesson and activities, checking for attentiveness, and participation

Summative Evaluation

Collect and mark each students activity worksheet and assess the quantity and quality of work, for example, did they complete the work, correctness and neatness.

Transition and Closure Minutes: 5

Moving children from the mat area to their desks for activity, cleaning up the area and returning to the mat area for closure

Follow Up Lesson/s

Reinforce learning of the seasons before progressing to sequencing the seasons in order and which months of the year belong to each season.
