ARTICLE SIX: BASKETBALL

01. PLAYER’S ELIGIBILITY

A. Division of players will be done according to grade enrolled in after September 1st of current season.

B. Leagues will be classified as 3rd and 4th grade, 5th and 6th grade. If there are more than ten teams in a league, further division will take place at the discretion of the Kid’s Inc. office.

C. In special cases, such as age, grade, or ability of certain players, parents will be asked if child could move up to next league on recommendation of Kid’s Inc. office.

02. REGISTRATION AND ROSTERS

A. Parent or guardian must accompany child for registration and to sign consent form.

B. Players will be evaluated and divided equitably onto team rosters according to ratings by team coaches, attending committee members, and Kid’s Inc. personnel.

C. Each team will have a set roster. A player will not be allowed to transfer from one team to another unless his/her parent is head coach of another team; in which case, the parent may trade for their child with a child of equal to or better ability. Any other trades will result in forfeiture of games played by the traded players.

D. Teams will be limited to ten players.

E. There will be one head coach per team. If the coach desires an assistant, the assistant will be picked after the coach receives his/her roster. The assistant coach may not trade for their child.

F. Children enrolling in a Kid’s Inc. activity, after the registration period, will be placed on a team at the discretion of the Kid’s Inc. office.

03. POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND CONDUCT

A. Good sportsmanship is an objective to be taught by the coach to team members. The coach is the best example for the team and spectators.

B. Disciplinary action involving a player’s playing time, must be reported to the Kid’s Inc. office prior to the game involved.

C. There will be no one on the court during games and warm-up periods except for players, coaches, referees, and Kid’s Inc. personnel.

D. All shoes must be changed before going onto courts. This includes coaches if they go on the court during practice.

E. No protest allowed.

F. Excessive running up of score will not be tolerated. Repeated violation will cause the coach to meet with the Basketball Committee.

G. All coaches will be expected to understand and abide by all rules specific to Kid’s Inc. Acceptance of a team means acceptance and agreement to the rules.

04. SCHEDULING

A. Game schedules will be made by Kid’s Inc. office and will not be altered except for inclement weather.

B. Changes in game schedule will be done by the Kid’s Inc. office and coaches involved.

05. EQUIPMENT

A. Players are responsible for the purchase of his/her shorts, shirt, and shoes. Shoes must be strictly for gym use only.

B. Every player will have a legal number on his or her shirt. (Number must be on front and back of shirt) Player’s name (last name only) is optional. NO NICKNAMES!

C. No tank tops.

D. If Kid’s Inc. equipment is lost or abused, fee will be paid before child can participate in another sport. Basketball = $40.00.

E. There will be no other shoes worn on the gym floors except basketball shoes. ALL shoes must be changed before going onto court.

06. TOURNAMENTS AND AWARDS

A. Double elimination tournament format.

B. Teams will be seeded by league finish.

C. Awards will be distributed through Kid’s Inc. office.

07. RULES OF PLAY

A. Four meetings a week will be allowed. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are days allowed for meetings. If a child cannot attend a practice on a Saturday, they will be excused, no disciplinary action may be taken.

B. 3rd-4th Grade Division-The quarters will be five minutes long with a three minute halftime.

C. 5th-6th Grade Divisions -The quarters will be six minutes long with a three minute halftime.

D. The coaches prior to game time in accordance with Kid’s Inc. rules will fill out participation sheets. DO NOT CHANGE X’s on the sheet or it will be a forfeit.

E. There will be a minute break between half quarters and quarters.

F. The objective of Kid’s Inc. competition is to let each individual play an equal amount of time.

PARTICIPATION RULE IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. The scorekeeper will keep the participation sheet and each player will be accounted for at each participation period through the third quarter. DO NOT CHANGE X’s on the sheet or it will be a forfeit.

2. The participation rule will apply regardless of the number of players each team has during the first three quarters of regular season games.

3. The forth quarter is free substitution in league games. Any one can play at anytime although every player must play in the forth quarter. No participation rule in overtime periods.

4. The same participation sheets will be used in the first half of tournaments with the third quarter deleted. Free substitution the second half in tournaments, but everyone must play in the third and in the forth quarters.

5. Except at the start of quarters or half quarters during participation sheet requirements there will be no substitution except if a player is injured or fouls out.

6. If a player is injured or fouls out and substitution occurs, the substitution time will not count against the substitute player, the participation sheet is still followed. Injured player may return during their participation time only.

G. National H.S. Federation rules book to be followed. (Except there will only be four timeouts per game)

H. The smaller basketball will be used in all divisions.

I. 3rd-4th Grade will shoot their free throws from the eleven-foot mark. The three-second lane runs from the eleven-foot mark to the baseline.

J. 3rd-4th Grade will have no full court press at any time unless the offense tries to advance down the court before giving the defense time to retreat. When a player shows he has possession of the ball with no advancement, no backcourt pressure is allowed. Teams may full court press during the last two minutes of the game and all overtime periods.

K. Three point shot is in effect for all leagues.

L. Any player receiving a personal conduct technical foul will be required to sit on the bench for three minutes of his participation time beginning as soon as the technical is received. The time will carry over to the next participation period or game if necessary. Referees, coach and scorekeeper will meet to determine when player is to return. If return is in a required participation period, the player will be required to return on the first dead ball after the completion of penalty time. If completion of penalty time occurs during the fourth quarter, re-entry of player will not be required. (Penalty time cannot be served during a period in which the player was not scheduled to participate.)

M. Any player receiving three conduct-technical’s in a season will be automatically suspended for the remainder of the season. The player may request (within 48 hours) to have their suspension reviewed by the Basketball Committee in order to afford reinstatement. The Committee will meet with the player within a week of the request to make a decision on reinstatement.

N. NO TORN, CUT, OR DEFACED JERSEYS WILL BE ALLOWED AS GAME JERSEYS.

O. In the spirit of protecting the integrity of a Kid’s Inc. team, overlapping seasons of a sport shall favor the Kid’s Inc. League.

P. The penalty for a player missing a game due to playing/practicing with another team will be a 14 MONTH suspension from ALL Kid’s Inc. Sports.

JERSEYS

A. Legal numbers are: 0, 00, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55. (You can use 0 or 00 but not both)

B. Jerseys must be:

1. Same solid color for all team members.

2. No torn or defaced jerseys.

3. Permanent numbers affixed to jersey.

a. NO tape.

b. NO numbers or names written on by crayon, pencil, pen, etc.

c. No duplicate numbers.

d. Numbers must be on front and back.

e. Last names only (optional), NO nicknames.

f. NO tank tops.
