Starbucks Coffee Company was first brought on to the scene by Howard Schultz in 1971. The first Starbucks to open was in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Pike Place Blend in 2008 was name given to the all day, everyday roast for the company because of the historical significance the name has for the company. In 1989 the company made history by offering part-time employees, full-time benefits. In 1991 Starbucks partnered up with CARE, which provides international relief. In 2003 formed the Starbucks Foundation which gives grants to help aid literacy, schools and community based organizations.

One goal the Starbucks want to achieve in there growth around the world was for each Starbucks store to reflect the community around it. For instance, the store in Fresno reflect the people in Fresno as well as the programs it supports like the American Cancer Society, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Relay for Life, California Blood Center, the local schools and events that takes place in the City of Fresno. Each store has leftovers of pastries from each day, though our goal is to sell them; the leftovers are donated to non-profit organizations throughout each community. This ensure that we reduce our waste and that is helping the communities in which Starbucks partners live.
