|JOB SUMMARY |
| |
|The Security Supervisor is responsible for supervising, assigning, and evaluating the activities of security officers across the health care system. |
| |
|The supervisor may be assigned to a specific shift and may also need to work flexible hours and manage various projects according to the needs of the department. If |
|assigned, the supervisor may be responsible for the administration, troubleshooting, evaluation, and training related to security technology systems. A supervisor |
|manages and trains security officers who patrol and respond to security incidents. The supervisor regularly communicates and provides coordination with law enforcement|
|officers and fire department officials and provides emergency assistance as needed. Supervisors have frequent interactions with patients, visitors, volunteers, and |
|staff. Supervisors ensure security officers complete incident reports as needed. A supervisor will need to complete and maintain leader standard work documentation. |
|MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES |
|Management Duties |
|. |
|Supervise, assign, and evaluate the activities of shift personnel, ensuring adherence to department and UWH policies and procedures. |
|Collaborate to build and maintain the department’s operational schedules. |
|Plan daily assignments and conduct daily briefing for security operations. |
|Assess shift personnel and equipment needs. |
|Monitor shift operations and work to resolve problems as they arise. Delegate specific tasks to security officers and department personnel and inform the Security |
|Manager regarding potential problems/issues and recommend possible solutions. |
|Frequently oversee emergency situations as they arise, notifying and involving the correct leaders throughout the organization. |
|Participate and support the hiring and onboarding of new employees. |
|Evaluate, counsel, and mentor shift personnel on job performance. Conduct staff performance evaluations as required and mentor security officers to performance |
|standards. |
|Monitor the training progress of new security employees and recommend updates and implement changes in the training program. |
|Round with officers in the field and at posts to foster positive collaboration and communication between the supervisor and employee. |
| |
|Administrative Duties |
| |
|Maintain an account of departmental property, which is assigned to individual security officers. |
|Review security officer reports for accuracy and adherence to department standards. |
|Complete assigned training programs such as Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR/AED, or other security healthcare programs. |
|Complete special projects including assistance with security investigations. |
|Plan and hold monthly meetings with Senior Officers. |
|Complete assigned training or attain other specialized knowledge of access systems, camera systems, and communications systems. Operate these systems at a high level |
|of proficiency that includes proper response to system compromise or failures. |
|Assist in the creation and revisions of policies and procedures, process documents and visuals to track and display data. |
|Monitor and direct employee performance for managing the Security Department email inbox. |
|Represent Security in Situational Huddles, Disruptive Event Consultation meetings and other meetings, huddles, and outreaches as assigned. |
|Provide on call leadership support as needed or when designated on a rotating basis. |

|Other Duties |

|Meet periodically with supervisors and managers from the Emergency Department, Psychiatry Unit, Pharmacy, Pediatric Units, and other security sensitive departments to |
|review and evaluate trends in Security related protocols. |
|Provide appropriate internal and external disaster assistance according to hospital policy and procedures. Understand the UWH Security Management Plan and the role of |
|Security Services in the administration of the plan. Provide support as needed to the Healthcare Command Center. |
|Provide support to personnel investigations in partnership with Human Resources. |
|Security Supervisors may be assigned to assist with staffing coverage as needed. |
|Respond to ED Color Status changes and calls needing additional knowledge or resources. |
|Review reports within the HERO system. Including any investigations or follow up. |
|Complete all other duties and projects as assigned. |

|Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities |Must be 21 years of age to drive UW Health Fleet vehicle and must be 25 years of age to drive a UW Health |
| |vehicle rated for 15 or more passengers. |
| |Ability to be insured by Hospital’s risk management insurer which requires (1) a valid Wisconsin Driver’s |
| |License and (2) successfully passing a driving background check. |
| |Ability to don and wear personal protective equipment, such as gloves, face shields, goggles, gowns, masks, |
| |powered air-purifying respirator, and issued ballistic vest protection while on duty. |
| |Knowledge of the laws and rules applicable to Security within UWH; including Wisconsin Statutes, Wisconsin |
| |Administrative Code and ability to learn and enforce UWH policies and procedures, and UWH work rules. |
| |Ability to acquire and retain knowledge of UWH facilities. |
| |Ability to operate radio communications equipment. |
| |Strong communication skills, especially listening and recounting information during high stress conditions. |
| |Knowledge of verbal and non-verbal tactics to safely de-escalate volatile situations and communicate with all |
| |individuals. |
| |Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write accurate and detailed reports. |
| |Skill in operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner. |
| |Knowledge of current crime prevention methods and procedures. |
| |Skill in detecting and locating smoke, unusual odors, and running water, which may indicate safety problems. |
| |Knowledge and skill with computer systems, including the use of spreadsheets, word processing programs, e-mail|
| |systems, and reporting/dispatch documentation software. |
| |Ability to use non-violent crisis intervention techniques, trained defense tactics, restraint tactics to |
| |assist with resolution of disturbances. |
| |Knowledge of security practices used in safeguarding persons and property. This includes a high degree of |
| |knowledge and skill in communications, access, alarms, and camera systems. |
| |Ability to train, coach, motivate, evaluate, document, and direct the work of others. |
