Respond to security incidents.Provide front line contact with staff students and visitors on security and customer service issues.Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities% TimeParticipate in a team responding to incidents and crimes ensuring where ever possible the safety and security of staff, students and visitors at University sites and including the protection of the University’s and individuals physical assets. 30 %Participate in a team providing a customer service to the University community and visitors. 30 %Be proactive in ensuring the security of buildings, internally and externally, in accordance with established procedures.10 %Develop knowledge of the geography of all University sites and establish a working relationship with the principal Faculty/Professional Services staff there.5 %Provide ‘first aid at work’ cover and be prepared to be trained to a higher standard.2.5 %Maintain written records for the issue and return of keys and other Security equipment. Take responsibility for safe handling, storage and reporting defects.2.5 %Investigate, keep records and make reports when required in respect of incidents or other security related issues. Be prepared to attend court as a professional witness.5 %Be vigilant, whilst patrolling, and note and report maintenance defects particularly those affecting security, health and safety and the environment.5 %Assist with the training of new employees, including security patrolling and Health and Safety requirements.5 %Act in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and the Security Section Health and Safety Policy, Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).5 %Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.Internal and external relationshipsMaintain professional working relationships with School staff, students, general public, contractors, staff within Professional Services and external agencies.Special RequirementsAbility to work shifts throughout 24 hours, including weekends and Bank Holidays. Must have a current Licence for Security Industry Authority to Door Supervisor level. Must have a current, manual full car Driving Licence.Flexibility to work additional hours including at short notice when required. Flexibility to work at any University site, as directed. Desirable to hold a Security Industry Authority Public Space Surveillance Licence.Desirable to hold a First Aid at Work qualification.PERSON SPECIFICATIONCriteriaEssentialDesirableHow to be assessedQualifications, knowledge and experienceGood written, numerical and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and prepare appropriate reports and to complete records and entries in occurrence registers.Current SIA Door Supervisor Licence.A good work record in an environment where customer focus is important.GCSE (or equivalent)Professional qualification in security.Manual handling qualification.Previous experience in a security based environment.Current first aid qualification (3 day Health & Safety at Work Course)An appreciation of the use of technical systems like CCTV and card access puter literate with Microsoft Word and Outlook Express as standard.Application, CV, References, Certificates, Interview plus Practical TestPlanning and organisingMust possess good organisational skills and experience.
