We know that eating healthy food makes us stronger, smarter and grow taller. We will then review the healthy foods we discussed last week dairy and fruits. Today we will talk about vegetables. We will try to name some vegetables that we know. We will also introduce some vegetables that we are not familiar with. We will look at their color, size and taste. Also, we will discuss where vegetables grow and how vegetables get from the ground to our table. SAND AND WATER/ SENSORY- we will add toy fruits and vegetables to the water bin. The children can pretend to wash them. Then they will try to separate the fruits from the vegetables.Dramatic Play- the children will pretend they are selling vegetables in a farmer’s market. They can gather all the vegetables, put prices on them and sell it to the other children. Blocks-Encourage the children to build a garden. They can plant seeds and then decide How will they separate one batch of vegetables form another. They can use the tractor and toy people to work on the farm.Science- the children will follow a recipe and make a vegetable salad. the children will help wash the vegetables. Then they will peel and slice the vegetables. They will combine the vegetables, eat and puter- They will play math games involving les and more.Writing- we will use their writing folder or write the name of their favorite vegetables. Literacy/ Library- The children will use books to identify words that begin with the letter s. Art-The children will be encouraged to create a vegetable garden. Then can use brown glue for soil and plant seeds. Then they can draw a picture of what the seeds look like as they grow into a plant. Last, they can draw pictures of the vegetable they planted or cut out pictures of vegetables from magazines or circulars. We will reintroduce the MyPlate poster and briefly discuss the different foods. Then we will point out the healthy foods of grain. What is a grain? Seeds from a plantHow do we get these seeds? Farmers plant the seeds. After a while the plant grows. Then the farmers cut the plants then take out the seeds. Farmers work hard and use big machines.We will name some types of grains-rice, wheat, oatWe cook grains like rice and oats before we eat it.Or we can first turn them into flour to bake with. For example, bread, pasta, cereal Dramatic Play- The students will pretend to go grocery shopping for healthy food. Discuss the different food and how it helps our body stay strong.Science- the teacher will provide laminated poster of My Plate. The students will use the MyPlate mat to learn about protein, grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables. They will use food from the kitchen center or cut out form magazines or circulars to sort the foods into the groups on the mat.Math- The children will sort the healthy vs. unhealthy food on a t-chart. They will then count both groups and state which one has more than/less than.Table Top- children will use Legos or building blocks to create a supermarket and go shopping for healthy foods.Literacy/ Library- The children will walk around the classroom (house) identifying objects that start with the letter h. Writing- The children will use the writing folder or we will encourage the students to write the names of healthy foods they see in books.Art- the children will create a collage of healthy foods. We will reintroduce the MyPlate poster and briefly discuss the different foods. Then we will point out the last healthy foods on MyPlate, protein. What is protein? Protein helps keep our bodies healthy and strong and is found in many different foods such as;Meat, chicken, fish, nuts, eggs and beansWe will ask the children to name a protein they like and eat.Science- Students predict what will happen to the egg in the water and the egg in the coca cola. They observe the egg in the science center and see if their prediction is correct. After a couple of days, we will see what happened to the egg and discuss the importance of brushing our teeth.Dramatic play- Encourage students to continue working with their restaurant. One student will pretend to be a customer and order from the menu and the other student will create the order. They will be encouraged to focus on protein rich foods. Students can do the same with the food in their home kitchen.Blocks- the children will build a farm for their animals. They can pretend they are farmers taking care of the animals. They can create small eggs for the chickens, milk the cows, and feed the animals…Math- the children will use a ruler to measure. They will gather the animals that we get protein from and measure them. Who is longer, shorter or the same?Literacy/ Library- Children will use pictures they draw or cut out to create a collage of words that start with the letter s.Writing- The children will use the writing folder or the children will ask their friends what their favorite healthy food is and try to trace/write it.Art- The children will be encouraged to create their own MyPlate. Then we will ask what else is healthy. What about exercise, movement? is that healthy? Why?Makes our muscles and heart strongIt helps our brain grow which help us become smarterWhen we exercise our bones growIt’s FUN(a great habit we need to start from a young age)Then we will have the children name what activities they like to do that are healthy or unhealthy (such as watching tv or playing on the phone).Blocks- children can use blocks to create healthy habit gyms to exercise. For example, they can create a ramp to run down or bike up. They can create monkey bars or balance beams.Science- the children will use the class body and the labels that name the parts of the body. They will choose one label, name the part of the body and then complete an exercise with that part of the body.Math- teacher will create exercises on cards. The children will choose one and then see how many they can complete. For example, the child choses a jumping card. As one child jumps the other child counts and then vice versa. Which child jumped more or less. They can continue playing by choosing another puter- They will play math games involving measurements.Literacy/ Library-They will look at an alphabet book and listen to music to review letter s sound and words that begin with the letter h.Writing- The children will use the writing folder or they will trace or write yoga poses with their names.Art- The children will be encouraged to create a yoga mat. Then we will ask what else is healthy. We will chart the kids answers.Then we will talk about brushing our teeth. Is that healthy? YES!Why? Making sure our teeth are clean helps keep our body healthy and strong. What happens when we do not brush our teeth? When we do not brush our teeth are not healthy and they can become sick. They can get a cavity. A cavity turns our teeth black and can cause our teeth to hurt. It is important to brush at least 2x a day. Dramatic Play- the children will pretend they are going to the dentist. The children will take turns being a patient or the dentist. The teacher will help the children understand what a dentist does and play along.Fine Motor- the children can use play-doh to create a mouth and little teeth. They can discuss the shape of their teeth and try to create a tooth from play-doh. Science- the children will practice brushing their teeth. They will look at a poster and follow the steps on how to correctly brush their teeth. Math- the children will use a mirror to count their teeth. Then they can count the teeth on Mr. Big Mouth. Wednesday 11/18Skill Building Activity #1:?Review the feelings cards we have learned about: happy, sad, surprised, and scared then introduced the angry feelings card. Today we are going to play a matching game with the feelings we have learned about. Select from your feelings card 1 set (either the boy or girl) for each of the feelings we have learned about and flip them over. For the angry feelings cards use both sets (boy and girl). This would make a total of 12 cards for this matching game. Flip over all the feelings cards and their match then have the students take turns pointing to 2 cards for you to flip over tell the students when we find a match you will hold them up and we should make the feeling we see with our face. Thursday 11/19Skill Building Activity #2:?Time to talk about feeling angry. If you feel your students will struggle with the open ended “I felt mad when ___” prompt. Give students scenarios and things that might make them feel angry like Li. You could start with showing the picture of Li and ask students how they would feel in each of the scenarios. Have them name the feeling, draw it, show it on their face, or point.
