Complete the following steps and answer the following questions before printing your final copy of your essay for evaluation. Turn in this completed page and the essay on which you have made the required notations with your final copy. Be sure to print out a clean copy of your essay to turn in for grading purposes.

1. Before reading your essay, number your paragraphs.

2. Read your entire essay to yourself, slowly. Be sure to read every word. If you read any sentences that sound “awkward” or wrong to you, put a (in the margin next to those sentences.

3. Having just read your essay, what sections or paragraphs do you like the BEST? What do you like about those sections? (You can use the paragraph numbers to indicate sections quickly. Write your answers here:

4. On which sections or paragraphs have you worked the hardest? What problems or concerns did you have with these paragraphs? Do you think you solved the problems?

5. Ignoring sentence mechanics at this point, which paragraphs or section of your essay seems to need the most work? What do you think needs to be improved on those sections?

6. After you read the entire essay, underline your THESIS STATEMENT. Are you satisfied that your thesis statement focuses and controls your essay?

7. In each paragraph, underline your TOPIC SENTENCES. Are you satisfied that each topic sentence identifies and focuses the topic of each paragraph.
