To meet financial, design and time parameters and comply with all health and safety, environmental and sustainability objectives. To ensure that maximum value is achieved, innovatively and in a manner supportive of the RVC vision and business principles. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for a programme of small to larger projects with high levels of technical complexity and associated risk. Competency: Project / Service DeliveryKey tasks: Prepare client brief and establish budgets in consultation with stakeholders, via gateway processes.Prepare a Development Programme covering all stages from inception through to completion.Advise on the selection and appointment of consultants.Management of the Design Team performance against brief and programme.Advise on the selection and appointment of the construction partner and/or contractors.Maintain a running log of budget and expenditure. Assist with preparation of the annual revenue budgets as necessary.Prepare and agree a risk management strategy for a project, produce a risk register and oversee and ensure clear communication of these throughout the course of the project.Establish cost plan and cash flow forecasts for design and construction phases. Maintain and apply an up to date knowledge of developments in project management best practice and in types and terms of standard contracts, procurement approaches and latest product developments.In conjunction with the Head of Estates Projects prepare project reporting, seeking relevant internal authorities at key gateways.Monitor project performance, update and take any necessary corrective action, engage necessary support to ensure objectives are plete a handover plan ensuring all the right people and processes are in place to complete the scheme to the quality required.Maintain, and apply, an up to date knowledge of health and safety legislation, agree a health and safety procedure for a project and ensure that the project team, contractors and technical consultants adhere to these and the College’s health and safety policies at all times.Maintain, and apply, an up to date understanding of environmental and sustainability standards and best practices and ensure adherence to environmental and sustainability policy at all times.Take an active role in wider team and business issues through active contributions and knowledge sharing. Competency: CommunicationKey tasks: To write reports and work plans and document systems and processes. To communicate both verbally and in writing with College staff, suppliers and contractors and others to form and develop effective working relationships.To advise the Director of Infrastructure Services, Head of Projects and others on project related matters that require strategic decisions or communication to primary stakeholders.Builds effective relationships and communications within the team, developing an understanding of when to elevate matters. Fosters positive morale and teamwork within project teams and with co-workers.Identifies, resolves, and documents client-side issues ensuring timely resolution.Gathers and dispenses lessons petency: Planning and OrganisingKey tasks: Manage project teams and external consultant resources (such as Architects and Engineers).To determine and analyse stakeholder requirements for the successful delivery of the capital projects.To lead and participate in the planning, design, delivery and commissioning of projects.To advise the Head of Estates Projects of the key decisions, resources and technical processes needed in order to meet the agreed operational plan.To plan, document and gain approval through the change control procedure any changes to the project brief. To schedule and carry out changes in a manner that minimises the adverse impact to staff and students.To work closely with all College functions to understand and bridge the gap between business needs and project petency: Initiative and Problem SolvingKey tasks: Skills to manage contractors, sub-contractors and consultants in order to meet tight deadlines.To investigate and liaise with relevant departments to analyse user requirements and lead in the developing of appropriate integrated designs and technical specifications.To analyse problems with a logical approach and propose technical solutions. Competency: Teamwork, Team Development and LiaisonKey tasks: Participate in coaching members of the team.Liaison with staff and students across the College to interpret and resolve problems and to understand changing patterns of demand.Liaise with colleagues in similar roles in other institutions so as to seek opportunities for collaboration and to benefit from experience and best practice.To take part in internal and external training and professional development as required.Open and willingly to share appropriate information with colleagues and be supportive of team decisions.Flexibility: To deliver services effectively, a high degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.
