POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Communications Officer will work in consultation with the Senior Manager, Development & Engagement to implement the delivery of high quality and effective communication strategies to support the Centres work and client base.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS

1. Develop and implement a communication plan to support the Centre’s Communications Strategy, incorporating a variety of communication tools including social media.

2. Contribute to the Centre’s capacity to deliver it’s Strategic and Operational Plan strategies

3. Develop and deliver clear, accurate and timely internal and external communications for the Centre

4. Prepare and present high quality written and presentation materials including media releases, publicity materials, reports and submissions.

5. Develop and enhance the engagement of social media within the Centre, including providing education and training to staff about the Centre’s media polices and procedures.

6. Monitor social media to identify emerging trends, client feedback and/or community issues.

7. Provide advice and make recommendations to management on the development and implementation of effective and high quality communication strategies

8. Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, media organisations, community organisations and government

9. Provide written reports ad activities data as appropriate

10. Work within organisational policies and procedures

11. Undertake other duties as required within each person’s scope and abilities

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Tertiary qualifications in journalism, media, pubic relations or similar experience in communications, media, stakeholder relations and issue management.

• Experience in developing and implementing a communications strategy including a social media plan.

• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to social justice principles, understanding of the legal assistance sector and a commitment to PCLC ‘s vision and values

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills with ability to use those skills to communicate with a range of audiences with diverse communication styles

• Proven track record of building collaborative relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders

• High level understanding of the Centre’s services, with the ability to represent the Centre in public forums

• Proven ability to work within limited supervision, manage competing priorities and find creative solutions to problems

• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team.

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

• Holds a current Victorian Driver Licence;

• Undertaking a National Police Records Check forms part of the pre-employment process.

• You will be required to undergo or hold a current Working with Children Check

• You may be required to travel to PCLC branches, PCLC service locations and community venues. Access to a reliable and comprehensively insured motor vehicle is a requirement.

• Act in a professional manner at all times while performing duties for and/or representing PCLC in line with the Staff Code of Conduct.

• An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Salary packaging is available.

• Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekend work when required.

Peninsula Community Legal Centre (PCLC) is one of 50 community legal centres in Victoria. It operates across six local government area in the south east of Melbourne – Cardinia, Casey, Frankston, Glen Eira, Kingston and Mornington Peninsula. PCLC is headquartered in Frankston and has branch offices in Bentleigh, Cranbourne, Pines and Rosebud.

The Centre works to empower and support disadvantaged community members of the South Eastern and Westernport region to use the law and legal system to protect and advance their rights and broaden their awareness of their responsibilities. The Centre offers general legal advice and casework services, specialist family law, tenancy, consumer law and family violence programs, and is active in community legal education and law reform work.
