Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (Small Groups, 15 minutes)

Activities that encourage preschoolers to enter the classroom and begin engaging with peers and Small Group Leaders by providing age appropriate and hands on fun while introducing new concepts they will hear in the day’s Bible story.

Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your 2-year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and children at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun.

1. Heart Jump

Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler’s natural desire to move to help them learn

What You Need: Floor tape

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Use the floor tape to make a large heart shape on the floor in the activity area.

During the Activity: Invite the children, one at a time, to jump into the heart. As the child jumps into the heart say, “God loves (child’s name).” Repeat the activity until each child has had a turn.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “God loves you!”

During the Activity: “Let’s jump into the heart because God loves all of us! (Choose a child to go first.) (child’s name), please jump into the heart. (Do activity.) God loves (child’s name).” (Continue and finish activity.)

After the Activity: “Yay! God loves you! Today, we will hear a Bible story all about how God loves us!”

Transition: Move to Bible story time by jumping to the story area.

2. Play-Doh Play **

Made to Play: An activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts

Be sure to list the items you will be using today on the “Allergy Alert Poster” (from “Other Resources” on the Website) and post it at the door to your room.

What You Need: “Allergy Alert Poster,” cardstock, and several colors of Play-Doh

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Copy “Allergy Alert Poster” on white cardstock and hang on the door.

During the Activity: Give each child some Play-Doh. Encourage the children to make things that God made with the Play-Doh. Be sure that every child has a turn.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “Yay! It’s Play-Doh time!”

During the Activity: “We’re going to make things that God made from the Play-Doh. I can’t wait to see what you can make!”

After the Activity: “Great job! God made everything! Today, we will hear a Bible story about the most important thing that God made.”

Transition: Move to Bible story time by pointing out items that God made as you walk to the story area.

3. Sensory Bin

Made to Explore: An activity that channels a preschooler’s innate curiosity into a discussion of the week’s crucial concepts

What You Need: Little People® figures, plastic greenery, plastic animals, plastic lemons and other fruit, shredded paper, and a medium-sized tub

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Place all of the figures, greenery, animals, and fruit in the tub. Place the shredded paper on top of the items to hide them.

During the Activity: Encourage the children to stick their hands into the tub and pull out something that God made. Repeat the activity until all of the items have been found.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “Let’s see what God made!” (Point to the bin.)

During the Activity: “There are items inside this bin (point) that God made. Reach inside and see what you can find!” (Do activity.)

After the Activity: “Nice work! You found things that God made! Let’s get ready to hear our Bible story about the most important thing that God made!”

Transition: Move to Worship and Story by chanting this month’s Bottom Line as you walk to the story area.

Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (Small Groups, 25 minutes)

Create a safe place to connect through activities that are written to reach every learning style while reinforcing the bottom line that was introduced during the Bible Story and applying it to real life experiences. In addition, these activities provide preschoolers with an opportunity to build relationships with their Small Group Leader.

1. Memory Verse with Motions

What You Need: No supplies needed

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Say the memory verse and do the following motions in front of the children.

“Nothing at all (shake head and wave your arms in front of you) can separate (lock your fingers together) us from God’s (point up with both hands) love (hug yourself). Romans 8:39.” (Open your hands like a book.)

During the Activity: Say the verse again with the motions and invite the children to do it with you. Repeat several times.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “I’m going to say our new memory verse. Everyone, watch me!

“Nothing at all (shake head and wave your arms in front of you) can separate (lock your fingers together) us from God’s (point up with both hands) love (hug yourself). Romans 8:39.” (Open your hands like a book.)

During the Activity: “Now, let’s do it all together! Are you ready?

“Nothing at all (shake head and wave your arms in front of you) can separate (lock your fingers together) us from God’s (point up with both hands) love (hug yourself). Romans 8:39.” (Open your hands like a book.)

After the Activity: “God loves us all! Nothing will ever change that! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] God loves me!”

2. God Made

Talk about God | Bible Story Review

Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler’s natural desire to move to help them learn

What You Need: No supplies needed

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Have the children stand in front of you.

During the Activity: Invite the children to do movements that imitate things that God made. Movements are: twinkle like stars (fingers in the air), wave your arms like branches of a tree, stomp like an elephant, and pretend to squeeze a lemon.

After the Activity: End the activity by saying, “God made YOU.” (Point to yourself.)

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “In our Bible story today, we learned that God made so many things!”

During the Activity: “Let’s act out things that God made! First, let’s be STARS! Hold your hands in the air and open and close your hands (demonstrate). We are twinkling like stars! Now, let’s be trees! Wave your arms in the air like tree branches (demonstrate). God made elephants! Let’s stomp like elephants (demonstrate). Great job! God made lemons! Let’s pretend to squeeze a lemon (demonstrate). Whew! God made so many things! Now, let’s point to the MOST important things that God made! (Point to yourself.) GOD MADE YOU!”

After the Activity: “God made you! He made you, and He loves you! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] God loves me!”

3. What I Can Do

What You Need: No supplies needed

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Have the children stand in front of you.

During the Activity: Invite the children to do following movements: jump, touch toes, pat head, and hop on one foot. Repeat as desired.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “We are going to play a game. Everyone watch me and do what I do.”

During the Activity: “I’ll do a movement, then you do it, too. God made us to do great things. (Jump.) I am jumping, so now you jump. (Do activity.) Great job! Okay, let’s do another one. (Touch toes and encourage the children to mimic you.) Wahoo! You‘re doing great! Keep watching me! (Pat head and encourage the children to mimic.) Now, let’s hop on one foot! Awesome! God made us to do awesome things!”

After the Activity: “God made you and loves you very much! He made you to do awesome things! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] God loves me!”

4. Heart Mask

Live for God | Application Activity

Made to Create: An activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line, or memory verse by creating a craft

What You Need: “Mask Label” Activity Page, Avery® #5160 labels or equivalent, heart-shaped plates (one per child), craft sticks (one per child), scissors, tape, and heart stickers

What You Do:

Before the Activity: Copy the “Mask Label” Activity Page onto the label paper. Cut a large hole in the middle of the plates. Tape the craft sticks to the backs of the plates as handles.

During the Activity: Give each child a plate and help them place the stickers all over the plate.

After the Activity: Place the label on the mask. Encourage the child to hold the plate to their face as a mask.

What You Say:

Before the Activity: “God loves you!”

During the Activity: “We’re going to make a mask that is a heart. It will tell everyone that God loves us!” (Do activity.)

After the Activity: “Great job! Hearts mean love. When we wear the mask it tells everyone that God loves us! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] God loves me!”
