Sentence versus Fragment
1. Sentence: This is a group of words that makes a complete thought.
a. If it is a sentence, it has a subject and verb.
b. Example: The very hateful old man bit the girl.
c. You find the subject by asking yourself who or what.
d. You find the verb by asking did what
e. If it is a sentence, you can do a diagram like below:
2. Fragment: This is a group of words that do not form a complete thought.
a. There is not a subject and verb in the sentence
b. Does not make sense alone
c. Example: Waiting in line at the bus stop
Assignment: P4-5 #1-15…If it is a sentence, put sentence and do the diagram T chart that I taught you. If it is not a sentence, just put fragment.
