Teacher 1: Hello I am Miss Flower

Teacher 1: Hello I am Miss Flower. Welcome to 3L’s class assembly. In class this term we have been looking at setting and achieving goals. We all need to have goals in life, but they are not always easy to achieve.

Teacher2 : hum hum. Thank you Miss Flower. QUIET AT THE BACK THERE. Our assembly today will show that it pays to keep trying when we face obstacles and difficulties, even when we feel like giving up. Here is Thomas he is a child in my class, he is pretty good at football but in order for him to be even better he has set himself some goals.

Thomas: Hello, I am Thomas. My main goal in life is to be a really good footballer. But in order for me to be really good at football I need to practice more and also do more exercise. So, I have set my self the goal of improving my fitness- (do some exercises).

Simon: I am Simon

Charlie: I am Charlie. I want to be a policeman when I am older

Simon: and I want to be an astronaut.

Charlie: But at the moment I am not doing to well at school. I am not trying my hardest. But I am going to start now because the police only want people who work really hard, who help others and always try their best.

Simon: and to be an astronaut you need to always work really hard in school especially in science and maths and you have to work really hard so that you will be able to go to university.

Charlie: so I have set a goal to always try my best, to work hard and to try and help others.

Simon: I know you can do it Charlie and ill help you if you want. and I am also going to try really hard at school especially in science and maths.

Teacher 1: Thank you Thomas, Simon and Charlie. Right. Now we shall watch a video about reaching our goals.

Tony Glitter: Boys and girls, mums and dads, brothers and sisters welcome to the Guinness Record Show. I am your host Tony Glitter and this is my assistant Sarah Mc Lovely.

Sarah Mc. Lovely: hello everyone!

Tony Glitter: Today we are looking people who are in The Guinness Book of Records. This book is full of examples of people who set themselves goals and persevered until they fulfilled their ambitions. For example… ***

Tony Glitter: Can I have a volunteer from the audience?? (pick someone from 3L) Sarah Mc. Lovely can you find me someone in the audience

Sarah Mc. Lovely: (finds someone in the audience and says…) Hello. What is your name and where do you come from?

Tiger woods: My name is Tiger woods and I come from America

Tony Glitter: Can you help us to help break a record here today? The record we want to break today is ‘how many golf balls we can stack in a tower’. Off you go you must try and stack these golf balls in a tower. (they try and fail)

Tony Glitter: Well it was a good try, the actual record for this is a tower of nine golf balls- can we have some applause please? Thank you sir.

Tony Glitter: Ok well that’s all for now folks, I’m Tony Glitter

Sarah Mc. Lovely: I’m Sarah Mc. Lovely

Tony Glitter: and we’ll see you again next week on the Guinness Record Show.

Teacher 1: right children, is every one sitting up straight? Ok. We shall begin. Today we are going to tell you a story called Leo the Late Developer.

Narrator 1: Leo is a lion cub who is trying to achieve the goals in his life.

Narrator 2: Leo the lion lived with his Mum and Dad and sister. They were very proud of their son. Soon the time came for Leo to join the other cubs at school. He was very excited. But somehow, although he tried very hard, he just couldn't get things right.

Narrator 1: When the cubs had roaring lessons, this is what happened.

Lion teacher: Right children can you roar for me…

Lion Cub 1: ROAR!

Lion Cub 2: ROAR!

Lion cub 3: ROAR!

Leo: Meow!

Audience: Ah!

Narrator 3: When the cubs learned to skip:

Lion teacher: let me see you skip

Lion Cub 1: (skips perfectly)

Lion Cub 2: (Skips perfectly

Lion Cub 3: (skips backwards and does tricks.)

Leo: (gets tangled in the rope.)

Audience: Ah!

Narrator 4: Leo’s parents were beginning to worry.

Sister: dad why cant Leo skip yet, or roar like the rest of us?

Dad: I’m not sure sweetie but I'm worried about Leo.

Mum: Its all right, he’s just a late developer.

Narrator 3: But Leo still struggled. The other cubs learned to read:

Lion teacher: what are you reading today?

Lion Cub 1: I'm reading Harry Potter

Lion Cub 2: I’m reading Roald Dahl

Lion Cub 3: I can look up words in the dictionary.

Leo: (holding a book upside down) OH!

Audience: Ah!

Narrator 4: Soon they were using scissors:

Lion teacher: let me see your beautiful designs

Lion Cub 1: (cuts a perfect triangle)

Lion Cub 2: (cuts a perfect star)

Lion Cub 3: (holds up a cut out flower)

Leo: (drops a handful of scraps to the floor) OH!

Audience: Ah!

Dad: I really am worried about Leo!

Mum: don't worry, he’s just a late developer!

Narrator 5: But even though Leo was finding school difficult he didn't give up. He was determined. After school each day he would practise, until one day:

Leo: (skips perfectly) I've done it.

Audience: (claps)

Leo: (reads from a book) I wandered lonely as a cloud

Audience: (claps)

Leo: (cuts with scissors and then opens out a concertina of people holding hands) da da!

Audience: (claps)

Leo: ROAR!!!!!

Mum: I told you he was just a late developer!

Sister: well done bro, I knew you could do it

Person 4: In life we all face challenges. Sometimes we need to be like Leo and keep on trying even when we find our goals difficult to achieve.

Person 5: We can help each other, by encouraging our friends to keep going when things are hard and congratulating them when they succeed.

Person 6: Here is a song and dance that we like because it makes us think about our goals and aims.

(Every one does the dance and singing)

Person 7: Please close your eyes and put your hands together. Dear God

When we face obstacles in life and feel like giving up, help us to be patient and to keep going. Amen."
