WinSales Use of Windows dll’s

WinSales Versions: 3.x, 4.x

Revised: 11/16/99

On page 3 find a list of all the files WinSales installs to the windows/system directory of each machine. This list includes the size, version, and WinSales disk the file resides on (all files are on the WinSales CD).

Usually multiple copies of a *.dll file on a machine causes problems. To check for this open Windows Explorer (Win95) or File Manager (Win 3.11). Search for each individual file by selecting Tools from the menu, then Find + Files & Folders. Fill in a file’s name, and click the Find Now button to search.

Be sure the Look In is searching the entire C:\ drive (see the example below where were searching for msajt200.dll).

Once the Search comes back, if there are multiple files found select each one individually, and then right click and select Properties. Check the size of the file in bytes on the General tab, then click the Version tab and check what version of the file you are viewing. View the screen shot for an example.

If you find multiple files on your machine:

Identify the correct file for use with WinSales. Usually WinSales installs the correct version in the c:\windows\system directory, and there are other files installed in other locations by different software programs.

Rename the files that are the wrong version to have an extension of *.old. Do this by selecting the file, right click and choose Rename. Rename the file to be “msajt200.old” for example.

If the correct file is not found on the machine you can expand in the correct version from your WinSales disks through Dos (Start + Programs + MS DOS Prompt) using the following type of command line: expand a:msajt200.dl_ c:\windows\system\msajt200.dll Or go to another workstation and copy the correct version on to a disk using Windows Explorer, then copy that file on to the machine you are having problems with into the c:\windows\system\ directory.
