Seventh Grade Art encourages the development of visual arts vocabulary and aesthetics through experimentation in individual and group projects. It also exposes students to a variety of methods and materials and challenges them to see things with an artist’s eye. EVALUATION: Based on the following criteria, the art teacher, the student and in some instances peers will evaluate a student’s project. Both the teacher and the student will assess each project according to a rubric.Effort: Student’s willingness to work independently, stay on task and try new ideasStudent’s correct use and care of classroom tools and materialsAssignments turned in on timeStudent comes to class preparedCraftsmanship:Student’s ability to use specific techniques, tools and chosen mediaPresentation and NeatnessContent:The project fulfills all requirementsStudent’s ability to critique their work and the work of others using correct vocabularyGRADING POLICY: Students receive a numeric grade based on the evaluation guidelines listed above in the following categories: project work 40%, effort 30% and class work 30%. Homework will be assigned occasionally on an as needed basis and/or if a student needs additional time to complete project work. Completion of homework will support the above grading system but will not show up as a separate grade.BEHAVIOR: All school rules apply. Classroom rules include:Respect for yourself and your work Respect for others and their work Safe handling of all materials and tools. Sharp tools are used.MATERIALS: In most cases, supplies for projects are provided. Occasionally students will be asked to bring in small items, such as fruits, vegetables or small objects for observational drawing purposes. Students are responsible for the safe handling of all tools and supplies and will be expected to replace anything not used or handled properly. Support for our program is needed and appreciated.Some materials the art room needs: No.2 pencils, small elmer’s glue bottles, tissues and q-tips.I will be available for extra instruction and/or studio time on Tuesday and Wednesday.
