Clinical Activities

Clinical expertise: General clinical cardiology; echocardiography including stress echo and transesophageal echo, right and left heart catheterization and coronary angiography, trans-septal catheterization, and endomyocardial biopsy; interpretation of electrocardiograms and ambulatory ECG; performance and interpretation of exercise treadmill tests.

Primary practice – UMPPA, 419 W. Redwood St., Baltimore, MD (o/p)

University of Maryland Medical Center (in-patient)

Responsibilities include in-patient and out-patient consultation, initial evaluation, and continued care. Inpatient attending responsibilities include Coronary Care Unit, Cardiology Consult Service, Attending in echocardiography suite, and cardiac catheterization laboratory. Administrative responsibility includes directing in-patient cardiovascular care for the Division of Cardiology.

1991 – 1992 Originated and established the Senior Medicine Resident conference series (All Senior Residents in Medicine deliver a 1 hour lecture on a topic of their choice to their peers)

1992 - present Organized and directed a yearly ‘core lecture series’ for new fellows in cardiovascular disease. Personal teaching includes lectures on stress testing, acute aortic disease, and pulmonary embolism.

1992 – 1998, 2000 Acute Care Medicine Lectures Series: Evaluation of Chest Pain and Acute Myocardial Infarction (yearly) Target Audience: Medicine Residents

1995 – 1999 Participant with Philip Mackowiak, MD and the Medical Chief Residents on the production of the yearly “Historical CPC”

1996. Developed an “Abbreviated Guide to Cardiology Trials” for residents on Cardiology Services, which detailed the major clinical trials in Cardiology including brief abstracts and references for further study

1996. Developed a programmatic means of teaching interpretation of ECG’s to housestaff rotating on Cardiology Service

1997. Developed a primer for housestaff and Cardiology Fellows for self-study in Stress-Testing

1997 - 2000 University of Maryland School of Medicine - Preventive Cardiology Symposium: Non-invasive Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease (Michael Miller, MD – Chairman). This One-Day “mini-course” was presented approximately 6 times with a target audience of 50 local Primary Care Providers, Cardiologists, and residents. The Course was held at University of Maryland/BVAMC and was sponsored by Bristol/Myers/Squibb.

2001. Developed a ‘core-curriculum’ for residents rotating on cardiology services: PACE – Program of Advanced Cardiac Education, which met for 1 hour three times weekly.

2003 – present Developed and ran weekly Cardiology Board Review conference for Fellows in Cardiovascular Disease training and residents / students on Cardiology Service
