Art I – Color Scheme Painting

Art I – Travel Poster in a Color Scheme

Project Guidelines:

For the subject of your painting you will research a country or state that you would like to travel to. Your painting will be a travel poster you design that advertises that country/state and includes the following elements about it:

• Name of state or country, can select a city – Ex. Paris, France –you can make stencils to trace on MS Word. You may ONLY print this!!

• Shape of country drawn carefully in your sketchbook, NO PRINTING! – Ex. Shape of the country of France

• Flag of country drawn carefully in your sketchbook NO PRINTING!– Ex. France’s flag:

• At least 2 major tourist attractions/items city is known for. What would you go there to see? To aid your research, type in “major tourist attractions for your country/state”. – Ex. Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Cathedral of Notre Dame, croissant, etc. – Draw these carefully in your sketchbook so you can use them as stencils later!! NO PRINTING!!

• Final sketch – Once you have the above drawn carefully on one page in your sketchbook, organize them in a pleasing composition on a separate page. Think about the principles of design – What do you want to emphasize? How is it balanced? Will you repeat anything? How will you lead the viewer’s eye around your composition?

Your color scheme may or may not directly relate to your country/state’s flag. However, you are being graded on the correct use of a color scheme not how it relates to your flag. For example, if your city is Paris, France and the country’s flag is red, white, and blue, you would also need to incorporate _______________ to create a triad color scheme.
