Open, sort, number, and distribute samples for bacteriological and chemical analysis. Assist with other aspects of sample preparation and sample unit preparation. Backup sample kitting and preservation for bottle orders sent to the laboratory. Generating bar coded numberlabels for analysis request forms, sample payment envelopes, and sample bottles. Placing payments received in an envelope and attaching bar codes to sample payments in envelope.Numbering sample and laboratory forms according to the proper tests requested.Distributing samples to appropriate work area using correct handling procedures (i.e., refrigeration if necessary). The employee in this position also receives, sorts, and separates payments for testing requests. Correct processing of samples is required to assure reliability of test data reported to clients' samples. The area provides the analytical support for the division's drinking water program which includes monitoring public and private water supplies for bacteriological contamination and chemical components. This position processes samples received by the laboratory and ensures that they are accurately sorted by client and analysis request and then distributed to the correct testing area following EPA regulated sample handling procedures.26.What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position?EDUCATION: Knowledge and skills typically acquired through completion of high school.EXPERIENCE: Laboratory Assistant 6No specific type or amount is required.Laboratory Assistant 7One year of experience performing laboratory assistant tasks in support of other laboratory personnel equivalent to a Laboratory Assistant 6.Laboratory Assistant 8Two years of experience performing laboratory assistant tasks in support of other laboratory personnel equivalent to a Laboratory Assistant, including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Assistant 7.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The employee in this position must have knowledge of commonly used laboratory techniques, terminology, and equipment. The employee must have knowledge of the safety procedures for handling hazardous chemicals.
