North Carolina Ghost Story Book Report
North Carolina Ghost Story Book Report
Due Date: October 31, 2012
This month’s book report is going to be a retelling of a North Carolina Ghost story. Our own library here at Whitaker does not have many ghost story books available, but you can find them in the city libraries and I have several in the classroom you may borrow. Some of the best books are those written by Bruce and Nancy Roberts, they are old, but are short and well written. Terrence Zepke is also a noted North Carolina author of ghost stories (as well as NC Lighthouse books and pirate books!) She has one book called North Carolina Ghost Stories for Kids. Your assignment for this report is to:
1) Have your parent sign the form showing that they knew about the assignment.
2) Choose a book of North Carolina Ghost stories and bring it in to be approved by me.
3) Read the book (yes all of it ()
4) Choose just one of the ghost stories you enjoyed and would like to retell to the class.
5) Practice retelling the story with an audience (parents can be a great audience!) Try to keep the retell to 3-4 minutes, if at all possible.
6) On Friday, November 18 we will share our NC Ghost stories around the classroom “campfire” and enjoy some yummy S’mores.
You will find the grading rubric on the back of this sheet. I will try to give some time in class for you to practice your retell with a small group of your fellow students. Don’t expect that one short practice will be enough. To be a good storyteller you have to practice many times. Practice in the mirror, with your parents, even to your dog or cat! Practicing will make the telling of your ghost story smooth and comfortable. **Please note Goosebumps books are NOT NC Ghost Stories!
