I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Apostles’ Creed is divided into THREE ARTICLES:CREATIONREDEMPTIONSANCTIFICATIONCan you see a parallel? FATHERSONHOLY SPIRITWhat do we call the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Do you feel welcome to join in the PERICHORESIS? Why or Why not? How do you see the talk about the Trinity relating to the Articles of the Apostles’ Creed?BREAK--5 MINUTESPART TWO-25 MinutesVery Short Video--Martin Luther’s Words from the Small Catechism on the Second Article of the Creed--Second Short Video of the class.Short Video from Colaborate--The Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed--Video 9 on DVD--Third short video of the ClassShort Video on Article Two--Another “angle” on the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed--It is always good to hear more than ONE VOICE!!!!--Fourth short video of the class.TAKEAWAYS FROM THE SECOND ARTICLE OF THE APOSTLES’ CREEDJesus is more than a historical figure. Jesus is our Savior.Yes, through the gospels, we experience Jesus’ birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension. BUT, there is much more to the STORY. Jesus us SAVES US FROM SIN and clears the way for us to have a relationship with God--Jesus is the pathway to God’s Grace.Article Two of the Creed is a DECLARATION of CHRISTIANITY. This is the heart of what we believe as confessional people who confess the RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST. Other religions have other “versions” of Jesus Christ, but we, as Christians believe the Word of God for our understanding of Jesus.Yes, this is a Creed for the church, the holy catholic (refresh my memory of what the word catholic means???), but it is also a very personal what that each of us confess--profess--our faith in our Triune God.Short Video Article 3 of the Apostles’ Creed--Colaborate Video--Number 10 on the Colab DVD-5th short video of the class--Fifth short video of the class.Short Video on Article 3 of the Creed (another voice!!!)-Sixth short video of the class. This is the final video for this class tonight.TAKEAWAYS FROM THE THIRD ARTICLE OF THE APOSTLES’ CREEDThe Third Article names the means by which the Holy Spirit work in the world. We have great symbolism for the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit is GOD--period. These symbols help us understand the movement of the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit is God.What does the Holy Spirit mean to you? How did you arrive at that understanding? Always know that there is NO WRONG WAY to think about the Holy Spirit. This is a very personal way in which we encounter God in our lives today. The Third Article DOES NOT stand alone! We need all three Articles of the Creed for a complete confession of faith.PART THREE-5 Minutes--LOOKING TO NEXT WEEK…Assignments for Next Week…Everyone, please plan on staying an extra 15 minutes next week for Confirmation Practice.
