?Welcome to Mrs. Wiatrek's 4th Grade Class(Math, Science, and Social Studies)Dear Families,Welcome to fourth grade at East Cliff! I am so thrilled to be your child’s teacher, and I know this will be an awesome year! I graduated from Tarleton State University (part of the Texas A&M system) with a B.S. in Economics/Agribusiness. I spent most of my career as an online banking web developer for a large credit union based in San Antonio. I come from a family of teachers and farmers. Teaching just kept calling my name! This year will be my 9th year of teaching, and I am blessed and honored to spend my day shaping young minds. I am married to a terrific guy and have two children: Wyatt who will be a freshman (sigh) and Arleigh who will be a 5th grader. I also have 3 dogs and 3 rabbits (at the moment). The following includes important information to help the year run more smoothly:Drop Off and DismissalOur drop off and dismissal procedures will be similar to what we had last year. If your child is a car rider, please work with them on memorizing their number. This will help speed up the process especially during the first few weeks. Contact the office or send a note if you need to change how they get home.HomeworkI will hand out homework on Monday, and it will be due on Thursday. I will try to keep homework at a minimum unless I see more practice is needed. Also, I really prefer to see students spending time at home on Reasoning Minds (my.). Reasoning Minds is a math program we use at school to reinforce and further learning. Students must know their multiplication facts!RemindPlease, please, please sign up for Remind as soon as possible. To sign up, simply text @f4kafh to 81010 (if you are in my homeroom). If you are in Mrs. Zipprian's homeroom, text @zippr to 81010. I will send you updates as to what is going on in our classroom as well as videos and pictures. I try to take pictures of information sent home often lost in backpacks.BehaviorI believe in students doing the right thing just because it is the right thing to do. With that said, I do reinforce positive behavior a lot at the beginning of the school year primarily using a program called Class Dojo. Students earn points for model behavior and earn prizes based on the number of points. I do emphasize they should be behaving not for the points, but because having good character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking!CommunicationI want there to be open communication between us. If at anytime you have a question, I will be happy to talk with you. The best way to contact me is by email at jwiatrek@g-. My email is on my phone, and I check it regularly even after hours. Don’t forget to sign up for Remind! You may send texts using Remind as well. SnacksYou are the parent and are best able to make nutritional choices for your child. However, certain snacks such as Hot Cheetos, Takis, and candy can cause a distraction in class. If it becomes a problem, I will ask for those snacks to not be brought to class. Students are free to bring a water bottle to use in class.SuppliesPeriodically we will need additional supplies. I bought a ton of pencils, erasers, and dry erase markers over the summer, but I do think these kids must eat them. We go through those items at an unbelievable rate!Show MeAs most of you know, math is very different now from when we were growing up. Because of this, many parents have found it difficult to help their child with their homework. On my website, I have provided instructional videos to help you and to help your child. These videos can be found under “Show Me” in the left navigational bar on my web page. I even cover 3rd grade topics if needed for review.Looking forward to a great year!Sincerely,Julie Wiatrekjwiatrek@g- ................
