Virtual Assistant

Are you communicative, good at editing or making graphics, and can handle email correspondence? If you're great at assisting people, you should be a virtual assistant! Virtual assistants can do a variety of tasks, from editing blog articles, to making graphics, to interacting with clients, to setting schedules.

For more information on side hustling as a virtual assistant, check out this post on How to Become a Virtual Assistant

Blogging

Blogging won't make you money right away! In fact, don't expect blogging to make you much for a while. Instead, what you're focusing on is building a portfolio for your work. If you're a virtual assistant, social media manager, or graphic designer, a blog is an excellent way to showcase your talent and point potential clients to your Work With Me page.

For more information on blogging as a side hustle, check out this post on How to Start a Blog and also check out my Work With Me page for inspiration on setting up your page!

Sell Homemade Crafts

If you're crafty, creative, and willing to put in some time to market your crafts, consider opening an Etsy shop! There are literally hundreds if not thousands of things you can sell on Etsy, including printable motivational quotes, hand crafted picture frames, planners, kitchenware, even clothes!

Earn Money Surfing the Web

One of my favorite ways to earn extra money (in the form of gift cards) is Swagbucks. Making money with Swagbucks is incredibly easy, because almost anything you do online is rewarded by Swagbucks. Searching for something? Earn Swagbucks. Shopping online? Earn Swagbucks. Want to play games? You can earn Swagbucks for that too!

With Swagbucks, you earn gift cards to retailers like Kohls, Amazon, and more. Check out Swagbucks, as well as InboxDollars, to earn extra money right now!

You probably have at least a few things from your closet you could sell, right? Make them work for you! With ThredUP, you can sell your clothes online easily, with hardly any effort on your part.

Have more than clothes to sell? You might want to check out your local consignment store. Bring things from your house to a local consignment store and you'll be able to get rid of your stuff and make money at the same time!

Sell Your Stuff Through Your Phone

Don't live near a consignment store? Stay at home and sell things to your neighbors: take pictures of things in your house, and sell them. That's it. OfferUp is a free to use app allows you to take pictures of items you don't want anymore around you house, price them, and sell right away to people in your city.

Review Other People's Websites

Do you visit other people's websites and immediately notice things they could improve? Are you good at summarizing what others could improve on their own websites? If so, you could make $10-15 reviewing other people's websites online and through your phone.

Mystery Shopping

Mystery shopping is one of those win-wins: You get paid to shop and you usually get to keep whatever you buy. Score!

You can get started with these companies: Sinclair, Focus Group (which is surveys and consumer feedback), BestMark, and MarketForce

Rideshare Driving

Own your own car and like to drive around strangers? Driving for Uber and Lyft could be a great, flexible way to make some extra money. You can drive in the early morning and still be home to pick up your kids after school, or you can drive the late night party shift and potentially make a lot more money driving around bar hoppers.

Get started with Uber here and Lyft here.

Be a Courier Driver

Don't want to drive around people? That's ok, food won't talk back! :) Some of the most popular delivery services include DoorDash and Postmates. These services take orders from customers, then send you, the delivery person, off to pick them up and deliver them to customers.

Get started with DoorDash here and Postmates here.

Rent Out a Room in Your House

Did you know you can rent out rooms in your house with Airbnb? If you have an unused guest room, considering renting it out on Airbnb to make a little extra money. If you live anywhere close to good tourist spots, like beautiful scenery or fun events/destinations, you can make a ton of money every year!

You can get started with Airbnb here and if you want to see what Airbnb is all about (and what good hosts do), click here to save money on your first stay with Airbnb.

Become a Brand Ambassador

Are you friendly, outgoing, and don't mind standing for hours on your feet? Consider becoming a brand ambassador! Gigs differ depending on the company, but usually you will be promoting a product or helping run an event for a company, typically on the weekend, but sometimes during the week too.

The best way to find brand ambassador jobs is on Facebook: type in "Brand Ambassador + (your city)" into the search feed to find Facebook groups devoted to finding personable brand ambassadors.

Check out Temporary Work

Don't mind going out in public, working part-time for a company, and then potentially never seeing them again? You might want to check out temping! In the past, many people used temp gigs to transition into full-time work, but now many people are temping just to make some extra money on the side.

Find temp jobs online, like on , by typing in "your city + temp/temporary employment".

Tutor

Were you good at math, English, music, or maybe a foreign language? Anything you're proficient at (i.e. better than a high schooler), you may be able to market! If you were a math whiz, for example, consider advertising your skills to tutor students in algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or even studying for the math part of the SATs.

You can find tutoring gigs on sites like Craigslist, but also check out Nextdoor, Facebook, and local schools. You can make a flyer or ask friends with kids if they know anyone who needs tutoring in your subject.

Be a Server or Bartender

These are quick cash jobs with high turnover, which means you should be able to get a job in a reasonable amount of time. Especially if you've ever been a server or a bartender, this should be a fairly easy (although maybe not as enjoyable the second time around), gig, since you already know the job and can manage multiple tables in your head!

Petsitting

Have a lot of space, some free time, and love dogs? You can get started by posting ads on Craigslist or at your local Starbucks, but one sure-fire way to find customers is signing up with . You'll have to be approved through the site, but once you are, you'll be able to set up a profile, show off your home/the spaces the dogs will roam, and your qualifications.

Other petsitting sites include: Wag, Pet Sitters International, and Pet Sitter

Sell Your Decorating Skills

Especially during the holidays, seriously consider selling your decorating skills to decorating-challenged friends and neighbors. You would be surprised how many people can't decorate (inside or outside) and would pay someone to help them decorate their house.

Similar to tutoring, start with your network first: ask friends, family, and neighbors if they know anyone who needs a designer or someone to help decorating their house for the holidays. Bonus points if you have a blog and can show pictures of your work (before and after pictures work great for this type of work!)

Sell Homemade Arts, Crafts and Food

Not to be confused with selling on Etsy, selling homemade art, crafts or food is local, like at your farmer's market. If you make an excellent pumpkin bread, or beautiful soaps, consider making a big batch and taking it to your local farmer's market to sell.

In some cases, food may need additional approval to sell, so before you go to the farmer's market, check and see what their rules are.
