Signs of the end of the world
In Bible thinking, all time since the end of the Roman empire or even all time since Jesus death has been part of the “last days”. See SDA article.
Good sites (some SDA, some not):

[pic]many wars (Matthew 24)
[pic]many disasters-earthquakes, tsunamis (Matt. 24) 2005 stormiest year yet:..
[pic]advanced technology (Daniel 12)
[pic]We can tell the whole world about Jesus. Christians are now in all nations (Mark 13). But 1/3 of ethnic groups still don’t know.
[pic]people love money, pleasure (1 Timothy 3)

• It’s possible to tell the world about Jesus (Mark 13)
• Possible for every eye to see something at once
• It’s possible for men to destroy the world (Revelation 11:18)
• Environmental problems (Revelation…plagues, etc.)
• Signs in the sun, moon and stars Luke 21:25
• distress of nations (with perplexity) World problems that man is perplexed to know how to solve. Can any person honestly say that this is not the current condition of mankind? Luke 21:25
• Israel’s existence as a nation, Construction of the temple in Jerusalem (Dan. 9:26, 27). "And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." Luke 21:24
• Everyone will say peace and safety
• False prophets and messiahs abound
• Many scoffers and people who doubt God, II Peter 3:3-4
• Doctrines of demons are popular (spiritualism, new age, etc.)
• Religion without power (many people are Christian, but many are corrupt), The lukewarm, Laodicean spirit that the Bible sets forth as characteristic of the "last days" is readily apparent. In the last days there would those who professed to be Christians but their lives would not justify their profession. They would have a form of Godliness by professing allegiance to and worshipping with various religious faiths yet would not have a genuine born-again experience that empowered them to live above sin. They would be lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God and they would be ever learning but never coming to the real truth. Matthew 24:51, II Timothy 3:4-7
• Energy/economic problems
• Theological apostasy and many deceptions (Matthew 24:10. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other.), corruption in the church (wheat and tares until the end), under grace only…
• Noah’s signs—people partying and marrying…focusing on physical pleasures
• Free sex, homosexuality,
• -The Bible is in every language
• -Communist and closed areas are opening to the gospel: Nanjing now prints 3 ½ million Bibles(a year?)
• -the world is now a global village and has a single culture—it’s easier to communicate because of tourists, new technology(net98,
• Christians and SDAs will have TV programs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 40 languages..makes it possible to spread the gospel to the world)
• -new emerging spirituality—people are tired of hedonism, materialism, secularism. People are looking for something because there is no peace without God.
• -increased SDA visibility
• Man has the ability to destroy the earth (Revelation 11…God will destroy those who destroy the earth)
• Men's hearts failing them for fear (Lk. 21:26), depression, etc.
• That day-the "day of Christ" (2 Thess. 2 cf. Rev. 6:16)-will not come until two things happen. First, the Antichrist will be revealed and second, the great "falling away" (2 Thess. 2:3 cf. 2:8-12) will take place when all the world will be deceived by the beast and the false prophet (Rev. 13:3-14).
• Immorality, disrespect, materialistic, selfish, proud, boastful, 2 Timothy 3:1-9 (TLB)
• America and Catholic church are gaining power rapidly…deadly wound is now healed…world is wondering after pope John Paul II
FROM ELLEN WHITE & BIBLE
• Religion will try to influence and control government
• Protestants and Catholics will work together against common enemies (GC)
• Spiritualism will come into many churches
• Major disasters will make people blame Sabbath keepers for God being angry.
REASON THAT JESUS’ COMING MAY BE DELAYED/SIGNS THAT HAVEN’T COME TO PASS YET
• Many people in communist and arab countries don’t know about Jesus
• 1/3 of tribes don’t have any part of the Bible in their language.
• America and Catholic Church must be powerful enough to control the world (growing greatly, but not there yet) Pope…must gain in popularity
• A cultural attitude that allows persecution must exist (also growing…we now allow persecution/interrogation of terrorists and their rights are slipping by degrees….but the cultural temperament is still very strongly tolerant)
• Latter rain must happen first
• Plagues must happen first
• Must be possible and feasible to ban people from buying and selling if they don’t have the mark…technologically…it’s getting closer…but that may require a cashless society first.
• Some Sunday laws have in the last few years been cancelled out of some state’s law books. (see my 1s5 e-mail on Soo) and religious liberty laws have been enacted with the help of SDAs.
• The prophecy about Jerusalem being surrounded by armies will have another fulfillment according to EGW (see: )
• Sun/moon darkened, stars will fall again (see: )
• The future temple that will be built in Jerusalem before the Tribulation -- Matthew chapter 24; Revelation chapter 11. This appears very difficult to build anytime soon (but this is a non-SDA idea…is it correct?)
• There will be much greater polarization of people…and secularism will be marginalized so that people choose between a true religion and a false religion…not between religion and atheism…at least this is what appears to be prophesied from Revelation…
SIGNS FROM OTHER RELIGIONS
• Many in the book AD 2000, by SDA Rene Noorbergen (Bryan has it)
• (signs of Jesus coming and other prophecies from the Quran, Hadiths many of which coincide with the Bible, as well as very good graphics, and a very good defense of creation science…the best muslim things on the net that I’ve seen… etc. 15 mb file at bottom of picture)
SIGNS OF THE END OF TIME
ROME…false prophets say bad things???---knowing Ethel by e-mail,
I first came to Korea in 1992 when this church was located in the Saeil-Saeil town. I was very scared of teaching English because in America I and my friends used to call English classes Anguish. Amazingly God has turned something that I thought was anguish into a way to serve God and see people’s lives being changed and coming to know more about Jesus. I thank God for helping me find a way that I can serve Him through my work.
I have a lot of memories of my first couple years teaching in Korea. I remember teaching through the summer with no airconditioners…I remember riding killing 45 mosquitos in 1 night at my home near Daechung Park. I remember playing games with the other guys..my nickname was “Wonder Boy”…Visiting the seafood market in Chagalchi was quite a strange experience…I often heard children pointing and shouting…”way—gook-saram, way-gook-saram”…I quickly learned how to deal with that…I would point and them and say, “Han-gook-saram, Han-gook-saram” and we would all laugh. I remember seeing nearly 60-80 students coming to our school just because it was one of the few places where they could get English practice…many memories…
One of the most unusual experiences was hearing a group named Huga proclaim that Jesus was coming on October 22, 1992. I listened to them..and went to their church a couple times and talked about them…one of their reasons was that Psalms is the 19th book of the Bible and in the 92nd chapter there are words about Jesus’ coming…So that meant that Jesus would come in 1992. I knew that Mark 13:32 says, "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." So, I was quite sure that this was a false prediction. But, it reminded me that I should be ready at all times.
If there are counterfeits, that means that there must also be a genuine. The Bible says that there will be many false prophets at the end of time who want to deceive us. But, the Bible is clear that there will also be true prophets. Joel 2:28 tells us that before Jesus comes, men women and youth will see visions and prophesy. Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.” 1 Thessalonians 5:4 says, “But you aren't in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won't be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.” 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 ays; "Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
If we hear people talking about future events, we need to be very careful to test them and prove them. If we pass on false things to others…it can easily discredit the Bible and our church. But, on the other side is the danger that we will doubt all messages, including the ones that are genuinely sent by God.
Recently, Paul and I read an amazing story about a woman from Laos who was brought to the SDA church by an angel and has said several amazing things. I’m going to share her story with you briefly…but before I do, I want to remind you of the Bible tests of a prophet. I also want you to write this down in your handout so that you will know it for yourself and be able to check out other claims of people. After the story, I will share some other ideas on this important experience.
TESTS OF PROPHET
Test 1. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20. This means that if they don’t agree with the truths we already know, we don’t need to listen to them. In the Huga case, they predicted a day even though Jesus said no one knows that. I could easily determine that they were false prophets. To test prophets you must know your Bibles…if you don’t know the original, you won’t be able to catch the fakes.
Test 2. “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7:20. Messengers from God are given certain tasks and they don’t fail. Their work produces results for God. A prophet is still human and makes mistakes sometimes and has temptations. But, his/her work produces important results for God’s kingdom.
Test 3. “When the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him.” Jeremiah 28:9. This is fairly obvious. If what they say comes true…believe them. Some prophecies are conditional upon people’s repentance. But, if prophets words come true…it’s very wise to listen to what they say.
Test 4. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.” 1 John 4:1, 2 If God gives a person a message, that message will uplift Jesus as God. It will honor Jesus principles and his sacrifice.
Prophets also have important messages for their times. Their messages are simple, but profound. And they are often very practical and tell us something we should do.
SOO’S STORY
From
Soo was born to Vietnamese parents who lived in Laos and was just 40 days old when her mother died. Her father later died from cancer and another Buddhist family adopted Soo. She was often sick and so missed quite a bit of school.
She was a very sincere Buddhist and she decided to become a nun. During this time Soo heard from her learned from her Buddhist priest of a God who had come down from Heaven, who had marks in His hands, His feet, and His Side and Head…one that forgives sins and will come again to take His children to live in Heaven with Him. He was called the “Second God” or Pra Ma-xi-an in her language.
Her adopted parents moved to Australia when she was in her late twenties. At 28, Soo’s developed breast cancer that spread through her body. She was in pain and weak. Her doctor examined her and told her that her cancer was terminal—she would die.
Soo decided to go on a trip to several countries before she died. On October 10, 2000 in the evening, she was packing for her flight the next day. Suddenly, her bedroom door started opening and shutting. It happened three times. Soo was very scared. So she prayed to the “Second God” and the manifestation stopped. She turned off her light to go to sleep. But, suddenly a bright and blinding light appeared in her room. A tall man in a long white robe of glowing light was there. He told her not to be afraid and she was fascinated by this being.
In a kind, melodic voice he told her about Jesus, the God of Heaven that made her, loved her, and died to forgive her sins and save her. He said Jesus had marks in His Hands, Feet, Side, and Head and told her Jesus holds the keys of Heaven and of Hell. He told her to trust Jesus and then he told her that when she arrived in America, she should go to the Seventh-day Adventist church. The angel told her, “It is the true church”. He also told her that she would hear “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” at an SDA church in America and “Rock of Ages.” at a big Bible conference. The angel said those songs were sung in Heaven. Then he gave her the names of five SDA pastors to meet in America…Mark Finley, Doug Batchelor, men to see in America. She was to contact Mark Finley, Ron Halverson, Kenneth Cox, Doug Batchelor, and give a message to John Carter to teach her about Revelation, the time of trouble, Matthew 24, the Lord’s Prayer, and Leviticus 11.
Soo asked the angel to write down the names of the church and the men she was to contact, because she spoke and wrote no English. The angel told her he would spell them for her, but that she must write them herself. Soo was directed to study the King James Bible and to translate three books she had never heard of before—Steps to Christ, The Great Controversy, and Desire of Ages—into her native tongue and take them back with her to Laos. She was to take care of the orphans and those with “no hands and no feet” [War casualties] in Laos, and to “go back to your country and tell your people everything you have learned...Jesus is coming very, very soon.”
As the angel spoke to Soo, she noticed the pain in her breast was gone! She felt strengthened and later found out that her cancer was healed!
The angel then gave Soo information that to her was puzzling. He told her when she went to America that something bad was going to happen. Soo told him…if there will be a big problem there…I don’t want to go! Very practical woman…The angel said go and see. You are living in the judgement time now. Your hearts have to get ready. The angel said after the big problem, the gospel will spread to the all the world. Soo asked him when Jesus will come. He answered that Jesus wants to come, but people aren’t ready yet. He said that in 2005 something bigger would happen in America and that the Sunday law would come in after that. Soo asked him “What is Sunday law?” His answer made it no clearer to her; “Good people work in government, but they work for evil. Watch the news.” He told her to remember to read the Bible, pray the Lord’s Prayer every night, and to trust, surrender, and obey. Then he told her he had to go with Gabriel to New York—that people there need Jesus—and “after a big problem there had passed, the gospel would spread to all the world.”
Soo went to America and she heard the song “What a friend we have in Jesus” at the first SDA church she visited. Later the angel told her the Bible conference she should go to. In June, 2002, Soo was baptized.
Soo studied 2 years at Uchee Pines learning health principles and Bible. She is now in Laos and is working on translating the 3 Ellen White books. She is also working trying to help the people who don’t have arms and feet.
She has met the pastors that God told her to meet. Here are their pictures.
Soo is now in Laos. She is learning important Bible doctrines from an Australian pastor who is there. She has finished translating Steps to Christ and is nearly done with Great Controversy. Desire of Ages isn’t finished either…but she’s working on it. She’s also helping sick people with hydrotherapy and telling them to avoid unclean foods like pork. She and Ethel are now discussing how to build a cheap building to start caring for the needy in Laos as the angel told her to do.
One, pastor, Pastor Townend, talked to her about her work in Laos. He asked if it was dangerous to work there since it’s communist. She replied in tears: “I know. But my Father (pointing her finger to heaven) will take care of me. If I have to die, I am ready. I was almost dead before anyway.” Then she asked that we pray for her.
ANALYSIS
This is an incredible story. I want to believe it…and I want to see my Jesus coming and this world of suffering ended. But, we must be very cautious about it and prove it from the Bibles. Let’s look quickly at the tests.
1) Everything she says so far matches the Bible and it also seems to match our understanding of the SDA church as God’s remnant church.
2) She is working very hard to produce fruits for God. She is facing quite a few obstacles in Laos right now. If she is from God we should expect that to happen.
3) One prophecy has come true…the angel’s words about a big problem in America soon after 2000…probably in New York. That matches very well with the 9-11 terrorist attack. Her 2nd prophecy is supposed to happen this year, 2005. We must watch and prove this one as well.
4) In her words, her speech, her sacrifice, Soo is constantly uplifting Jesus and pointing people to his soon return. She doesn’t know a lot yet. But, she’s honoring him.
5) Her message if true, is also very important for our time. The angel tells us what we should do and it’s very practical and simple.
There are some concerns though.
1) ESTABLISH CREDIBILITY: She’s only had one prediction come true. False prophets can sometimes be accurate. We should not at this time reject or totally accept her.
2) CHARACTER: Greg Whitsett was here last week and he has met Soo. She talked to him and asked him to teach Bible in Laos. When he didn’t join her in this because it could endanger a long term evangelism project, she became very angry with him. He also said that she was boasting to Lao church members that she is the one who has talked with angels. Since Soo is only a new Christian, Greg says we shouldn’t discount her because of this. Many great Christians who were led by God had different character flaws. But, we should keep on watching and seeing if more of what she said comes true.
Friends, we don’t need Soo’s story to know that Jesus is coming soon. Almost all of the prophecies in the Bible have happened or are close to being fulfilled now. Soon may be in 3 years, 10 years or 20. But in view of the world’s history, we’re getting very very close to the end. The angel told Soo, “Your hearts have to get ready.” “Go back to your country and tell your people everything you have learned...Jesus is coming very, very soon.” These are the 2 important things that each of us can do now. We can prepare our hearts and live daily. We can learn how to be witnesses for Jesus. You don’t have to be a pastor to do this…there are simple ways that each of us can do this. I pray that all of us check our hearts and learn right now how to witness effectively for Christ.
OPTIONAL
To conclude, we already know that many signs of the last days are happening and that very few prophecies are left unfulfilled in the Bible.
END TIMES
• many wars (Matthew 24)
• many disasters-earthquakes, tsunamis (Matt. 24)
• advanced technology (Daniel 2)
• We can tell the whole world about Jesus. Christians are now in all nations (Mark 13). But 1/3 of ethnic groups still don’t know.
• people love money, pleasure (1 Timothy 3)
• people are disrespectful and proud (1 Timothy 3)
• America is a world power (Revelation 13)
• Catholic church is getting powerful (Rev. 13)
• Protestants are working with Catholics to change government (Ellen White)
--------
• America becomes a world power able to force the world to follow it ideas. This is still in process, but America is the #1 world power right now and is forcing many nations to do what it wants. (Rev. 13)
• The Catholic church is regaining her prominence very quickly. Pope John Paul’s was an incredibly brilliant and spiritual man. But, this is bringing a restoration of the influence and power of the Catholic church. This also must happen before Jesus comes. Revelation 13
• Gospel will go to every nation…According to the World Christian Encyclopedia, there are now Christians in every nation on earth. Christianity is the first universal religions in this way. But, there are millions of people who have never heard of Jesus. Almost 1/3 of the languages and people groups on earth don’t even have a Bible in their langauge. Mark 13
• People love money, proud, unloving, unforgiving, boasting, loving pleasure more than God, religious but it doesn’t change lives (2 Timothy 3:1-5, Matthew 24:37-39)
Protestants in America gaining political influence in America and joining with the Catholics on points that they hold in common is also a prediction of the last days. And then there’s the cultural moodlast week

TESTS OF PROPHET
4. There is no reason to be deceived, for the Bible presents clear tests to be applied to the professed prophet.
“To the law and to the testimony.” Isaiah 8:20.
“By their fruits.” Matthew 7:20.
“When the word … shall come to pass.” Jeremiah 28:9.
“Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.” 1 John 4:2.
5. Added evidences that help to confirm confidence in true prophets are: (1) physical manifestations, (2) timeliness, (3) certainty, (4) high spiritual plane, (5) practical nature.
[116]
6. All the tests must be applied to the prophet, over a long period of time if necessary. The evidence is cumulative and must be carefully noted before a final decision is made.
Important things will not be said only once…
The article below is the amazing story of a Buddhist nun from Laos who was healed of incurable cancer by an angel and given instructions and prophecies about several end time events. An online article and 2 video interviews of her story are at: or and the script is below in full. Here is an extremely short summary of her experience and then some concerns to think about. I thought about not sending this to everyone since it has some controversial things in it that some people will automatically reject at first. But, I hope some of my explanations will cause you to think about it prayerfully and critically because if it’s true, it means there is not much time to work before God comes.
------------Summary of Soo’s Testimony----------
1. Soophaphone Sirivongsack (Soo) is a Buddhist nun in Laos. She learns about a 2nd God with characteristics identical to Jesus.
2. She gets cancer which will kill her according to a doctor.
3. Soo sees doors opening and closing mysteriously just before leaving for America. An angel appears to her, heals her cancer completely and speaks with her about Jesus and how she can trust him. He told her to remember to read the Bible, pray the Lord’s Prayer every night, and to trust, surrender, and obey and to rely on Jesus alone.
4. The angel gives her instructions to go to the “true church”, the SDA church, and learn more about Bible truth from SDA churches and leaders (see note below on this). She will hear “What a friend we have in Jesus” at the SDA church that she visits first.
5. The angel predicts several major events in the near future:
a. After she arrives in America a very terrible thing will happen there. Then God’s message will spread to the world.
b. the angels are holding back winds of trouble, but, in 2005 an even worse event will happen.
c. This will be followed by good government people who love God but work for evil—esp. passing a Sunday law (this is a government law requiring all to worship only on Sunday no matter what they believe..see note below).
d. Jesus is coming very, very soon.
6. Soo was directed to study the King James Bible and to translate three books she had never heard of before—Steps to Christ, The Great Controversy, and Desire of Ages—into her native tongue and take them back with her to Laos. She was to take care of the orphans and those with “no hands and no feet” [War casualties] in Laos, and to “go back to your country and tell your people everything you have learned...”
7. Soo spent nearly two years at Uchee Pines (a Newstart health training school) learning many things: English, massage, hydrotherapy, and life lessons and is planning to return to Laos soon.
In the interview with Jim Doss (minutes 14-16), the angel also said, “You are living in the judgement time right now. Your heart has to get ready.” Soo asked when Jesus will come. The angel said, Jesus wants to come, but people haven’t gotten ready yet.
