ADDITIONAL INFO

1) Time frame: 4-6 minutes long

2) MUST have a finished product to show the class (if applicable); ex - If you are creating something, i.e., a beaded bracelet, you must show what it would look like when it’s done

3) Will be videotaped (digital pics will also be taken)

4) Dress up somewhat formally for your speech (unless specific attire is required)

2) Pick TWO hobbies/skills (that you already know how to do) in case I don’t approve of your first choice or someone else signs up for it before you.

3) Will not approve…

a) Simple ideas, such as….

i) Making a peanut butter & jelly sandwich

ii) Tying your shoe

b) Anything inappropriate for school, i.e., card games related to gambling, etc. (Use your common sense or ask me about ahead of time.)

c) Cooking (because of food allergies)

d) Ones that cannot be done IN the classroom; for example, how to ride a horse

4) No duplicate topics within the same class (the sooner you decide, the more likely you are to get your topic first)

5) Your parents must approve your idea; if I am uncertain as to whether they would, bring in a permission form from them.

WHAT IS IT?

1) A speech that shows/demonstrates something, such as a skill/hobby

2) Audience hears the words, and the words are reinforced by what they see; audience’s attention is focused on the visual aids more than the speaker

3) Can you think of television shows that use demonstrations to make their point?

4) Fewer notes are needed for a demonstration because visual aids remind the speaker of the next part of the speech.
