Metaphors of Sin:

o Sin is poisonous, like a viper (Ps. 140:3; Mt. 23:33).

o B.    Sin is stubborn, like a mule (Job 11:12).

o C.    Sin is cruel, like a bear (Dan. 7:5).

o D.    Sin is destructive, like a canker worm (Joel 2:25).

o E.    Sin is unclean, like a wild dog (Prov. 26:11).

o F.    Sin is cunning, like a fox (Lk. 13:32).

o G.    Sin is fierce, like a wolf (Jn. 10:12).

o H.    Sin devours, like a lion (Ps. 22:13; Dan. 7:4).

o I.    Sin is filthy, like a swine (2 Pet. 2:22).

The effects of sin:

o The loss of light (1 Jn. 1:6).

o The loss of joy (Ps. 51:12; Jn. 15:11; Gal. 5:22; 1 Jn. 1:4).

o The loss of peace (1 Jn. 3:4-10).

o The loss of love (1 Jn. 2:5, 15-17; 4:12).

o The loss of fellowship (1 Jn. 1:3, 6, 7).

o The loss of confidence (1 Jn. 3:19-22).

o The possible loss of health and even physical life (1 Cor. 5:5; 11:30).

Why we need a savior:

o Only a sick person needs a doctor. Man is desperately ill. (See Isa. 1:6; Mt. 9:12.)

o Only an accused person needs a lawyer. Man stands condemned in God’s court of law (Rom. 3:10-19).

o Only a drowning person needs a lifeguard. Man finds himself flooded by the waters of sin (Ps. 69:1, 2).

o Why men are lost.

o They are lost because of their rejection of biblical revelation (Ps. 19:1; Acts 14:17; Rom. 1:19, 20).

o They are lost because of disobeying their own conscience (Rom. 2:14-16).

o They are lost because of their relationship to the world (Eph. 2:2; Jas. 4:4; 1 Jn. 2:15-17).

o They are lost because of their relationship to Satan (Mt. 4:8, 9; Jn. 8:42-44; 12:31; 2 Cor. 4:4; Col. 1:13; 1 Jn. 3:10; 5:19).

o They are lost because of their relationship to sin (Gen. 2:17; 8:21; Job 14:4; Eccl. 7:20; Jer. 17:19; Mk. 7:20-23; Rom. 5:12; 7:14; Eph. 4:18).

o They are lost because of their relationship towards God (Jn. 3:36; Eph. 2:12; 1 Jn. 5:12; Jude 1:19).
