Virtual Scout Day with the National Constitution CenterCitizenship in the Nation BadgeHello, Scouts! Thank you for signing up to participate in the National Constitution Center’s virtual citizenship in the nation badge program. As you work to complete this badge, you will join several live programs featuring members of the Center’s education team and the National Park Service, all of whom can help you better understand the meaning of citizenship and the requirements for citizenship in the nation.At other points in the program, you will have the opportunity to do some exploring on your own. A few programs have been prerecorded by one of our educators, and will share information that should help you get started on completing the badge requirements not addressed by the live presentations. You may access educational videos on our website () that will guide you through these steps as well. Finally, while this program is not taking place at the National Constitution Center, we are here to assist if you have any questions or need any more resources to help you complete your badge requirements. Email us at scouts@.InstructionsAfter attending the National Constitution Center’s virtual programs and completing all independent activities, fill in this packet and email it to scouts@. A National Constitution Center merit badge counselor will review your answers and contact you via email with any questions or comments, and to approve your virtual blue card. Discuss the rights, duties, and obligations of a responsible and active American citizen.Attend the live “Pass the Citizenship Test” show, hosted by the Center’s education team!Click or tap here to enter text.Requirement 2A: Visit a place that is listed as a National Historic Landmark or that is on the National Register of Historic Places. Tell your counselor what you learned about the landmark or site and what you found interesting about it.While you can’t visit Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park in person at the moment, our National Park Service friends will be joining us to tell you all about this amazing national treasure. Discuss with your counselor how these functions affect your family and local community.This requirement will also be covered at the live American Documents workshop, hosted by the Center’s education team!Click or tap here to enter text.Part Two: To be completed independently, either before or after attending our live, online program.Requirement 2: Do one of the following (Note: We will be doing Requirement 2A together at our online Scout Day to fulfill the other half of this requirement)B: Tour your state capitol building or the U.S. Capitol. Tell your counselor what you learned about the capitol, its function, and the history.C: Tour a federal facility. Explain to your counselor what you saw there and what you learned about its function in the local community and how it serves this nation.D: Choose a national monument that interests you. Using books, brochures, the Internet (with your parents’ permission), and other resources, find out more about the monument. Tell your counselor what you learned, and explain why the monument is important to this country's citizens.National Constitution Center Resources Available! Discuss the national issues you learned about with your counselor. Choose one of the issues and explain how it affects you and your family.Click or tap here to enter text.Requirement 6: With your counselor’s approval, choose a speech of national historical importance. Find out about the author, and tell your counselor about the person who gave the speech. Explain the importance of the speech at the time it was given, and tell how it applies to American citizens today. Write a letter about a national issue and send it to one of these elected officials, sharing your view with him or her.
