Admissions Counselor I

Purpose

Purpose:

Provide professional graduate student admissions knowledge, advising and counseling skills regarding the institutional admissions process for graduate students. Responsible for counseling and all aspects of routine and non-routine graduate student admissions and enrollment.

Essential Functions

Function 1:

Evaluate domestic and international transcripts to determine degree equivalency and grade point average for graduate student admission to UT Arlington meeting university policies.

Function 2:

Evaluate admission files to determine eligibility for graduate admission. Notify students of their eligibility. Provide students with professional and high level information, counseling and advising about graduate admission eligibility. Resolve issues that pertain to eligibility for admission to graduate school with the applicant and university community.

Function 3:

Provide professional and high level information, counseling and advising to graduate applicants, graduate students, graduate advisors and others outside the institution regarding graduate admission processes, state, UT System, and institutional rules and regulations that pertain to graduate admission and enrollment. Using this knowledge, resolve issues regarding these processes, rules and regulations.

Function 4:

Evaluate state residency forms, institutional financial forms and federal immigration documents to determine residency status and issue student visa's for graduate students. Using knowledge of state and federal rules regarding residency and immigration, provide professional and high level advising to graduate students about these issues.

Function 5:

Evaluate graduate advisor admission recommendations to ensure that they comply with institutional and state admission criteria. Finalize and notify graduate students of the admission decision. Using knowledge of institutional and state admission criteria, provide counseling and advising to graduate students about the decisions and resolve issues pertaining to the decision process.

Function 6:

Provide periodic supervision to clerical and student workers. May may also recommend new full time and student workers for appointments.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree. 1 year of experience counseling students in academic and scholastic matters with a broad knowledge of institutional admission requirements. Applicants must include in their online resume the following information: 1) Employment history: name of company, period employed (from month/year to month/year), job title, summary of job duties and 2) Education: If some college or college degree, list school name, degree type, major, graduated or not, and hours completed if not graduated.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a university department or admissions office. Experience evaluating international transcripts. Experience working in PeopleSoft. Experience working with ImageNow or a similar document imaging and management system. Experience working with non-native English speakers and international customers. Experience with high volume customer service and conflict resolution.
