PRINCIPAL¡¯S MESSAGE

State testing is right around the corner! The California Assessment of of Student Performance and

Progress (CAASPP) was introduced in 2014. CAASPP replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting

(STAR) program. This assessment will be administered to students in Grades 3 through 5 at Auburn

Elementary School. This spring¡¯s CAASPP testing schedule, which begins on April 29, is included in this

newsletter. Please take a look at the schedule and note the dates and times your student¡¯s class will be

testing.

CAASPP is used to to track student progress toward mastery of the Common Core State Standards

(CCSS) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. School agencies at the site, district, county and state

levels use the results of this test to inform decisions about school programs and funding. While it is not the

only factor used to gauge our programs¡¯ effectiveness in ensuring high levels of learning, it¡¯s a helpful

indicator. We want this information so we can know how we are doing and what we need to do moving

forward.

Because this student testing data is so valuable, attendance is critical. We ask that parents please make

every effort to maintain positive attendance during the testing period. Whenever possible, please avoid

scheduling medical appointments and vacations on the days your student will be testing.

Here are some things you can do to help your student get ready on testing days:

Get a good night¡¯s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast - students can have a hard time focusing if they

come to school with little sleep and an empty stomach.

Come prepared - CAASPP is taken on computers and require headphones. While we will provide

students with headphones, they are welcome to bring their own headphones or earbuds which they might

find more comfortable. Please ensure these are labeled and understand that the school and district is not

responsible for lost, misplaced, damaged, or stolen items.

Remain positive - staying calm will help your student stay calm. Many students experience nervousness

or anxiety when it comes to tests like this. Practice relaxation techniques with your student. At Auburn

Elementary, we have learned to use the Breathing Tool to help self-regulate emotions when we¡¯re feeling

agitated.

Arrive to school on time - start the day on a good note by having your students ready to be inside the

classroom by 8:50 AM.

includes links to CAASPP practice tests, which our teachers use to help the students become familiar with

the test format and features.

Thank you, parents and guardians, for remembering to sign in at the office before entering

campus. This includes before and after school. All adults on our campus should be clearly identified

by wearing either a staff ID badge or a visitor sticker or badge.

PTC NEWS ¨C

The next PTC meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 3. Meetings begin at 3:15pm and are held in room

K1. Everyone is welcome to attend!

AEF GILLGAN¡¯S ISLAND DINNER

The Auburn Education Foundation is raising money for music grants by holding a Gilligan¡¯s Island themed

dinner on Monday, April 8th. The evening starts at 5:30 at Dingus McGee¡¯s Restaurant with a no host bar,

followed by dinner at 6:30pm. Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased in advance in the school

office. The menu for the evening is Huli Huli chicken, pulled pork bar, coconut pineapple rice, Hawaiian

baked beans, fruit and dessert! This is going to be an amazing evening.

PARKING LOT

After school pickup safety is always a priority. To maintain safety, please follow these simple steps: The

right lane is for carpool and pick up, the left lane is for thru traffic. Please pull forward as the line moves and

always remain in your car. Parents are also welcome to park and walk to the pickup area to meet their

children. Please never park in the no parking zone on Lariat Ranch Road. Thank you for your continued

support.

TEACHER REQUESTS FOR 2019 - 2020

It is time for our school to start developing class assignments for the upcoming school year. Each year

parents ask us about making teacher assignment requests. Our school staff works hard to create the best

possible learning environment for your child. If a parent wishes to request a particular teacher, a Teacher

Request Form can be obtained the school office. In order to be considered, the form must be returned

to the school office no later than Friday, May 3rd at 3:30pm. Please note we strive for balanced

classrooms and not all requests can be honored.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Everyone is welcome to attend the Auburn Union TK/K Round Up at E.V. Cain School on Thursday, April 25

from 6:00 ¨C 7:30. This is a great opportunity to learn about AUSD¡¯s kindergarten program. Registration for

the 2019-2020 kindergarten is now available online at auburn.k12.ca.us. Enrolling students must turn

five (5) years of age by September 1, 2019. You must also provide a current record of your child¡¯s

immunizations, proof of residency (a P.G. & E bill, water bill etc.) and a current health examination for

school entry, dental form and an original birth certificate to complete the process. We are looking forward to

meeting our new students.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

We are accepting Box Tops for Education now for a spring submission. Each box top is worth 10 cents and

they really do add up! Please send your box tops to school. We appreciate the support! The PTC uses the

funds from box tops to support school activities.

FROM THE ATTENDANCE DESK

Please remember to let the office know if your child will be missing school. To clear an absence you can

call the office at 530-887-1958 or send an email to Janet at Jdufour@auburn.k12.ca.us. We encourage

parents to help your child to be at school daily and arrive on time. The bell rings at 8:45 and students are

tardy at 8:50. If your child will be absent, please call the school at (530) 887-1958 ext. 8867 to report the

absence. PLEASE NOTE: Auburn Union School District does not receive ADA for students who do not

attend school, regardless of the reason. If your child is truly ill, please keep them home; Rest is the best

thing for them. We do receive ADA however, for those students are here at school even if it for a small

portion of the day. We do encourage you to schedule medical or dental appointments outside of school

hours. If your student should have an appointment during the school day, they are encouraged to attend

school before and/or after their appointment. Thank you for your support.

?Las pruebas estatales est¨¢n a la vuelta de la esquina! La Evaluaci¨®n de California del Rendimiento y

Progreso de los Estudiantes (CAASPP) se introdujo en 2014. La CAASPP reemplaz¨® al programa de

Pruebas e Informes Estandarizados (STAR). Esta evaluaci¨®n se administrar¨¢ a los estudiantes de los

grados 3 a 5 en la Escuela Primaria Auburn. El calendario de evaluaciones CAASPP de esta primavera,

que comienza el 29 de abril, se incluye en este bolet¨ªn. Mire el horario y anote las fechas y las horas en

que la clase de su estudiante ser¨¢ evaluada.

La CAASPP se usa para observar el progreso de los estudiantes hacia el dominio de los Est¨¢ndares

Siempre que sea posible, evite programar citas m¨¦dicas y vacaciones los d¨ªas en que su hijo realizar¨¢ la

prueba.

Aqu¨ª hay algunas cosas que puede hacer para ayudar a su hijo/a a prepararse en los d¨ªas de ex¨¢menes:

Dormir bien y comer un desayuno saludable - los estudiantes pueden tener dificultades para

concentrarse si asisten a la escuela con sue?o y con el est¨®mago vac¨ªo.

Venir preparado ¨C La CAASPP se toma en computadoras y requiere auriculares. Si bien les

proporcionaremos auriculares a los estudiantes, pueden traer sus propios auriculares para que se sientan

m¨¢s c¨®modos. Aseg¨²rese de que est¨¦n etiquetados y comprenda que la escuela y el distrito no son

responsables por art¨ªculos perdidos, extraviados, da?ados o robados.

Mantener una actitud positiva - mantener la calma ayudar¨¢ al estudiante a estar tranquilo. Muchos

estudiantes experimentan nerviosismo o ansiedad cuando se trata de pruebas como esta. Practique

t¨¦cnicas de relajaci¨®n con el alumno. En la Escuela Primaria Auburn, hemos aprendido a usar la

herramienta de respiraci¨®n para ayudarnos a autorregular las emociones cuando nos sentimos agitados.

Llegar a la escuela a tiempo - comience el d¨ªa con el pie derecho al tener al estudiante listo para estar

dentro del aula a las 8:50 AM.

CENA DE LA ISLA DE GILLIGAN DE AEF

La Fundaci¨®n de Educaci¨®n Auburn (AEF) est¨¢ recaudando fondos para becas de m¨²sica al celebrar una

cena tem¨¢tica de la Isla de Gilligan el lunes 8 de abril. La noche comienza a las 5:30 en el restaurante

Dingus McGee con un bar sin anfitri¨®n, seguida de una cena a las 6:30 p.m. Los boletos cuestan $ 35 por

persona y se pueden comprar por adelantado en la oficina de la escuela. El men¨² de la noche es pollo Huli,

barra de cerdo desmenuzado, arroz con pi?a y coco, frijoles hawaianos al horno, fruta y postre. Esta va a

ser una noche incre¨ªble.

ESTACIONAMIENTO

La seguridad despu¨¦s de la escuela es una prioridad. Para mantener la seguridad, por favor sigan estos

pasos: La l¨ªnea derecha es para ¡°carpool¡± (manejo compartido) y para recoger a los ni?os, la l¨ªnea

izquierda es para el tr¨¢fico. Por favor mu¨¦vanse hacia el frente seg¨²n la l¨ªnea se mueve y permanezcan en

sus autos. Los padres tambi¨¦n se pueden estacionar y caminar hacia el ¨¢rea de recoger a los ni?os. Por

favor nunca se estacionen en la zona de no estacionamiento en la Lariat Ranch Road. Gracias por su

apoyo continuo.

SOLICITUDES DE LOS MAESTROS PARA 2019 - 2020

Es hora de que nuestra escuela comience a desarrollar tareas de clase para el pr¨®ximo a?o escolar. Cada

a?o los padres nos preguntan acerca de c¨®mo hacer solicitudes de asignaci¨®n de maestros. Nuestro

personal escolar trabaja arduamente para crear el mejor ambiente de aprendizaje posible para su hijo. Si

un padre desea solicitar un maestro en particular, se puede obtener un Formulario de solicitud de maestro

en la oficina de la escuela. Para ser considerado, el formulario debe ser devuelto a la oficina de la

escuela a m¨¢s tardar el viernes 3 de mayo a las 3:30 p.m. Tenga en cuenta que nos esforzamos por

lograr salones de clase equilibrados y no todas las solicitudes pueden ser atendidas.

La inscripci¨®n para el jard¨ªn de infantes 2019-2020 ahora est¨¢ disponible en l¨ªnea en

auburn.k12.ca.us. Los estudiantes que se inscriban deben cumplir cinco (5) a?os de edad antes del 1

de septiembre de 2019. Tambi¨¦n deben proporcionar un registro actual de las vacunas de sus hijos, prueba
