Welcome to the - Bloomington, Indiana

On behalf of the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department, it is my pleasure to present this Minority & Women Owned Business Directory. Encouraging and fostering economic links between public/private sector entities and minority and women-owned businesses and promoting the talent of minority and women business leaders helps to foster the success of a new generation of entrepreneurs and strengthens Bloomington's economy.

This directory has been prepared to: ? Provide visibility to the diverse businesses found in our community; ? Serve as a guide for individuals, corporate purchasing agents and local

businesses looking to do business with women and minority-owned companies; ? Promote equity of economic opportunities and help eliminate barriers for minority- and women-owned businesses; and ? Serve as a resource for women and minority-owned businesses that want to encourage and support each other.

Enjoy,

Beverly Calender-Anderson City of Bloomington Safe & Civil City Director safeandcivil@bloomington.

The Minority and Women Owned Business Directory is a publication of the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department. The listing of any company, organization or individual in this directory does not reflect an endorsement by the City of Bloomington.

Welcome to the Minority & Women Owned Business Directory!

We hope this directory will be a valuable tool for individuals and companies seeking to do business with women-owned and minority-owned businesses, and we hope it will be a resource too for business owners who wish to support one another as they grow their businesses in Bloomington.

The City of Bloomington is dedicated to supporting economic opportunities for all. We advocate for racial and gender equity in all arenas, especially in government and business.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2007 Survey of Business Owners (2012 data should be released in 2015), women business owners in Bloomington generated more than $189 million in receipts and paid nearly $40.5 million in payroll. Bloomington's minority-owned businesses contributed about $90.9 million in receipts and paid employees nearly $14.2 million.

Despite these contributions, women and minorities continue to be underrepresented in our country, in our state and in our city. While women owned 28.7 percent (about 5.8 million) of all firms in the U.S., their companies' sales only comprised about 4 percent ($1.2 trillion) of total receipts in the country. Similarly, minority-owned firms comprised 21.3 percent of all U.S. firms, but only 3.4 percent of sales. At the local level, 9 percent of our businesses were minority-owned and 24 percent were women-owned; however, minority-owned firms accounted for only 1.5 percent of total sales and women-owned firms for only 3.4 percent.

This directory is an effort to raise the profile of women and minorities doing business in Bloomington. On every page, the diversity of businesses contributing to the economic vitality of our region is highlighted. Your support of them supports the overall economic health of our community.

Thank you,

Danise Alano-Martin Director of Economic & Sustainable Development City of Bloomington
