The following elements belong together in families as grouped below. The elements as listed are not necessarily in order. The letters are not the normal symbols for the elements.

BHG, JENU, LVQC, XAD, ZPR, OIT, MFS, YKW

These letters represent the actual elements on the periodic table. You are to arrange them in the chart below in the correct families and periods. Remember, hydrogen is not a member of family IA.

1. A has a total of 4 electrons

2. B has more electrons than any element in its family.

3. D loses two electrons in a chemical reaction.

4. E is the alkali metal with the least electrons.

5. F has 4 electrons in the 4th energy level.

6. G gains 2 electrons in a reaction and causes Fe to rust

7. H has two unpaired electrons in its outer sublevel.

8. I has the smallest atomic mass in its group.

9. J is the largest metallic element listed.

10. K is the most abundant element in the earth’s atmosphere.

11. L is the noble gas with the most metallic character.

12. N has one less proton than a noble gas.

13. Ions of element P are found in table salt.

14. Q is the smallest and least reactive in the family.

15. R is the smallest non-metal not including the noble gases.

16. S is in every living organism on earth.

17. T has 3 electrons in its third energy level.

18. U is an alkali metal.

19. V is larger than C.

20. W is in period 4.

21. X is the largest and most reactive alkaline earth element listed.

22. Z is a halogen.
