This program offers free counseling that will not require you to use your benefits/insurance. If you have tried EAP and wish to pursue alternative types of counseling/therapy, you may have coverage through your benefits plan. It is important to read the details of what your benefits can offer coverage for. Many plans will provide coverage for various types of clinicians with different credentials. For instance, your benefits may cover psychologists, psychotherapists (might identify credentials such as MEd or MA), and/or Master level Social Workers (MSW). Exploring these details is important as psychologists typically cost more per session compared to a clinician with an MSW, and so this will impact how many sessions you may have access to that are covered. You will also need to clarify with your insurance company regarding how to file a claim as well as this process differs. If you find a clinician you feel comfortable in working with, you can communicate what your benefits/insurance offers, and discuss options for working together to maximize what you have access to.
