CAPSULE DESCRIPTION

(For the figures, please refer to the 5th drawing)

The four elements of nature was my initial idea, an idea where those important elements are somehow sacred, and protected by her “Home”, nature. Although the elements of nature are the cause of clash and conflict in nature, but in reality, they are the cause of a balanced nature. If we dig deep inside us, we come to figure out and understand that the only way “HARMONY” is there is because of these natural clashes and conflicts.

Throughout my research I came to understand that “HARMONY” appears in almost everything, and in architecture it appears through the distortion of geometry. I would explain this distortion of geometry by having some kind of collision, interaction, attachment, and diffusion. From here on I moved to the idea of a cell protection those molecules that are colliding, interacting and mainly diffusing causing the cell to take different forms.

So far my “LIVING BOX” is the cell and the molecules in the cell take the functions/elements that complete the meaning of my space. (Schem. 1)

But in order to reach something harmonious, all those elements i.e. molecules should function a work together to add energy and “SYNERGY”, and when do have this ability to function well as a group we reach to something harmonious.

Eventually after many trial and errors, and those molecules diffusing around in the cell I reached to what I wanted my shell (cell) to look like. I reached to having a plan taking the shape of a distorted capsule. (Schem.2)

The lines are there to indicate the zoning, the “CAPSULE” is divided into three parts: 1. Where the kitchen is considered to be the heart of the home, located in the middle section, which is close to all other elements. (Fig.2)

2. The bathroom and the bedroom are considered to be the private area, they are two areas within each other located on the right side of the plan. (Fig.2)

3. The living area is located on the left side of the plan and closest to the entrance. (Fig.2)

We also realize that the furniture is also incorporated with the plan and take the forms of somewhat organic shapes. There is this atmosphere in the plan (Fig.2), the elevation (fig.3) and section (Fig.4), that it’s just one continuous line. Where you feel the furniture, kitchen, and partitions are born within the floor. By doing so I have created some kind of synergy, leaving us with a harmonious atmosphere.

Moving on to the plan dimensions, it takes the size of (W= 4.6m, L= 12.0m, H= 2.8m). To be able to fit the container; the width showing in (Fig.5) is reduced by half.

The “CAPSULE” slides inwards above the floor level (Fig.6) leaving me with a small wing that fold vertically (Fig.7)

I can say that the plan is divided into two parts: 1. Half the plan is considered to be static, where the living area, kitchen and bathroom do not move. (Fig. 2)

2. An independent area, where the reduction of size takes place to fit the container. (Fig.6)

I have located the living area, kitchen and bedroom all facing the independent area because it is a sheer plane, because it provides you with scenery (Fig.2)

If we move towards the sleeping area, we realize that there is a partition that creates a kind of privacy. When the volume is ready to be transported and the volume is reduced in half this partition also moves backwards, till it reaches the level of the kitchen creating a storage area. (Fig1)

Finally speaking of my space and connecting it to the cell, molecules, chemistry and air we realize that the space not only takes the shape of a capsule but an atmosphere of an aeroplane.

Last but not least, mentioning the material, polycarbonate is best suitable for my project as it a contemporary material that is durable, could take any shape because it could be molded, it is a light material, available in different colors and mostly of its self-supporting structure.

CAPSULE

A Polycarbonate is ready to “crack”. Obviously the idea of cracking is opening up. What a “cliché”? Of course once things crack they open up. How about “CRACKING” but in the sense that brings the “CAPSULE” closer and attached?

Well going back to the “CAPSULE”, we do get the feeling of a case protecting whatever that is inside it, and protection gives comfort. The whole aim of my “CAPSULE” home is to give comfort. Just imagine yourself living in one, and not anyone, but a “CAPSULE” providing you with protection, comfort and scenery wherever you are. A contemporary shaped shell providing you with protection, the smooth lines from the exterior but also from the interior together incorporated with the smooth curvature of the furniture along with the elements that complete home. What is sheerness all about? It is transparency; it’s all about wanting to see and to be seen. My “CAPSULE” provides you with a lot of transparency, lightness that gives you beautiful scenes, so here I am also talking about interaction between the outside and inside. THE “CAPSULE” with a comfortable circulation, the interior color scheme is joyful and light that soothes your mood at all time, windows that give you the feeling that you are flying high above.

Home is not about size, but it’s all about how we use and treat the volume that makes your home immense in value and not in size.

Last but not least “Ready to Crack” is all about ready for transportation. My “CAPSULE” is that simple to transport by air, just slide half of it inwards to reduce the width by half in order to fit in a container. And here the “CAPSULE” is not detached but on the contrary, attached. Over all, my “CAPSULE” provides you with complete “Harmony”.
