Social Emotional Learning SpecialistPosition Description Organization: Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (non-profit, youth service)Hours: Part Time / Full-timeReports to: Director of OperationsLocation: Berard Center (Stevens Point) and/or Plover CenterPosition Summary: The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Specialist provides an array of services for youth who may need additional support and guidance in their personal growth. Services include: check-ins during daily Club, cooperative peer interactions & group games, positive behavior reinforcement, and social and coping skills development & enhancement. Using a trauma-informed care model, the SEL Specialist addresses an individual child’s social and emotional learning needs. The Specialist works in conjunction with school teachers, human services, Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) staff, United Way, and BGC staff to support children’s mental health through the Boys & Girls Club STEP Up Club. This includes broad-based child assessments, parent education, abuse prevention services, and individual and group support.Primary duties for the Social Emotional Learning Specialist:Performance is acceptable when Social Emotional Learning SpecialistLeadership and ManagementOversight of case management activities and documentation of interactions and supports for youth, grades 1st-12th.Have regular communication with school, parents/guardians, and/or other support services. Connects parent/guardians and club members with appropriate community resources.Encourages parent/guardian involvement in school.Exercises independent judgement and initiative within general policy guidelines. Comfortable working in a fluid environment focused on continuous improvement. Program Development and ImplementationImplement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and standards for STEP Up Club program.Provides information and referrals for teachers and parents to support the optimal development of club members.Collaborates and coordinates with CCS staff partners and attends collaboration and coordination meetings.Utilizes Zones of Regulation & Positive Action curricula. Provides individual and group CCS services to club members in need of additional support.Ensures that all programs and activities occur daily as scheduled.All programs are safe & meaningful.Club discipline policies are enforced during each program. 3. Evaluate Step-Up Club programming. Collects data required by program and assists with reporting outcomes to stakeholders.Documents all client contact and session notes.Produces monthly program outcome reports for Director of Operations, Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders. 4. Facility ManagementFollow and assist with the daily & weekly cleaning schedule.Assists in maintaining a clean, neat and properly equipped program area.Assists in keeping program supplies organized and maintained to limit wasted resources.Assists in making sure that the overall Club environment is safe and inviting for all Club Members. Encourages kids to assist in cleaning the Club 5. ProfessionalismProvide guidance and role modeling to program staff and Club members. Arrive on time according to the staff schedule.Appear dressed in a professional manner.Be a positive role model inside the Club and beyond. Support fellow staff in meeting program goals, objectives, and outcomes.Form meaningful relationships with all youth and their parents, regardless of their background.Report any employee misconduct to the Director of Operations &/or Executive Director immediately.Participate in staff performance evaluations.Additional Responsibilities:Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.Participate in special Club programs and/or events.First Aid/CPR trained.Perform special assignments or other duties as deemed necessary or important by supervisor.Physical Requirement/ Work EnvironmentActive environment that requires the employee alert for several hours at a timeSome lifting and moving of moderately sized objects.Must be able to function in a fast-paced and noisy environment.Possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to drive a vehicle. Skills / Knowledge Preferred:Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or other related field preferred.At least 2 years of experience in youth development. Ability to communicate effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, as well as other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.Ability to interact appropriately with the general public.Ability to implement quality programs for youth.Ability to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environment.Ability to work independently and in groups.Flexibility to work hours that vary daily and throughout the year.Able to meet deadlines.Disclaimer:The information presented indicates the general nature and level of work expected of employees in this classification.
