Example Essay 1: IntroCyber Serial Killer ChildrenFrom the first time Americans where introduced to the Atari video game console, there was no question that it was going to have a permanent position in the household. As time passed video games evolved from 8-bit pixel Pong to the realistic graphics of NFL video games. Along with the evolution of video games, violent content in them became increasingly popular. With the violence in games came the extensive debates on whether video games have a negative influence on the behavior of children. Through extensive research it has found that there are many negative effects that video games have on children’s behavioral traits, such as addiction, social habits, and aggression. The government and other organizations have put rating systems to help parents control the content that children watch. Even so most children find a way to play violent video games. Parents must know the negative effect that violent video games have on a child’s development, so they could better manage their children.Example Essay 1:Body ParagraphAnother example of how violent video games contributes to aggression in children’s behavior, is in Dr. Elizabeth K. Carll’s article titled “Violent Video Games: Rehearsing Aggression”. Dr. Carll a clinical psychologist and is a chairman in the Interactive Media Committee for the American Psychology Association’s Media Psychology division. In this short article Dr. Carll, writes about how violence in video games is linked to hostility, and aggression. Carll explains the difference between watching violence on television and movies versus video games. Dr. Carll explains that violent video games are more likely than other media to lead to aggressive behavior, because of their repetitive nature and the gamer's identification with violent characters. She also writes about the different types of violence such as; sports violence, war violence and sexual violence.Essay 2: IntroThe Battle Of Domestic Violence and The NFLIn today’s society, pop culture is hugely influential in our every day lives. No matter where we are, we always have social media influencing us in some way whether it is social media, music, news, etc. One of the most influential factors is sport, especially the National Football League. Recently in the National Football League we have seen many superstar football players commit domestic violence. Before these players’ crimes were exposed to the public, domestic violence was not really looked at as a big deal. Growing up, many children witness domestic violence occurring in their homes so they come to believe that it is not wrong. Not only is it seen at home, but also on television shows and movies where the subject is being made fun of so it does not seem like a big issue when in reality it is. Now that children and teens are seeing that their favorite football players and role models are doing this they are more likely to participate in it themselves. Now that the National Football League has had to deal with all these domestic violence issues the National Football League has finally begun to bring awareness to this sensitive topic. The National Football League is taking strides to bring awareness and show that this is a serious topic and is not something that should be taken lightly. Essay 2: Example ParagraphAfter these unfortunate events for commissioner Roger Goodell, he addressed the criticism with the announcement of a new domestic violence policy for the National Football League. Goodell’s announcement includes the following statement: “a six-game suspension without pay for the first offense and a lifetime ban for a second offense. Goodell specified that these rules would apply to all NFL personnel, including executives and owners, not just players. A player who receives a lifetime ban can petition for reinstatement after one year.” The new policy has taken the National Football League on a better path because by enforcing these rules they will not make the same mistake as the Ray Rice situation. Not only does this policy involve players, but also anyone affiliated with the National Football League. These new policies show how serious the National Football League is about domestic violence. Not only is the National Football League just trying to discipline their current players and personnel, but they are now targeting younger athletes, both male and female. We have seen this approach being taken recently in the 2015 National Football League Draft “the NFL will provide the mandatory training to all of the incoming rookies who show up for the draft.? It’s the same 45-minute video presentation that all NFL employees were required to watch last year.” This has been the first ever rookie class that has had to take the domestic violence class, which shows that the National Football League is trying to instill the negative aspects of domestic violence in the minds of these young athletes so they can mentor their future colleagues not to participate in these acts. Not only is the National Football League beginning to instill these morals in their current and soon to be players and personnel but they are also targeting younger groups as young as those still in high school. "We recognize the incredible influence coaches can have on their players and how football can be used as an educational tool to affect change," Deana Garner, the NFL's director of player engagement and education, said. "To truly change a culture and behavior, and instill a personal accountability in living a life of character, you need to affect people when they are young." Before the Thanksgiving of 2014, the National Football League sent out a 17-minute video to coaches of high schools and youth teams around the nation to better prepare them to discuss domestic and family violence with their teams. This video should hopefully teach these young adults and children how serious domestic violence really is and that it should not be taken lightly. Hopefully the fact that the people presenting these videos are the children’s role models and instructors will cause the information to be taken seriously. Last year the One Love Foundation, which was created by the family of a University student who had been killed by her ex-boyfriend, had reached out to the National Football League to work together on bringing awareness to domestic violence. The One Love Foundation’s executive director, Katie Hood, stated: "What I am excited about is that the NFL is taking the opportunity to think big -- sure, they want to affect the lives of their players and staff, great; but this is the first step I think, in going a little broader, to really say - let's get ahead of it, not just because we don't want our players to end up in bad situations, but because it is an equal opportunity epidemic; we don't want anyone in these situations." I agree with Katie Hood because it is good that the National Football League has begun taking action towards its players and their personnel by creating greater consequences to those who partake in any domestic violence. Now that the National Football League has shown that they are passionate about raising awareness about domestic violence by sending videos to coaches to show athletes the dangers of domestic violence, hopefully they will begin to take further action and bring this awareness not only to coaches and athletes, but also to everyone around the world. Essay 3: IntroAre You Being Cyberbullied?Have you ever found yourself looking at your smart phone for any updates on your Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram feed and noticed all the comments that were being written? If you think about it, there is not usually a post that does not have a comment, whether it is positive or negative. Society is all about their technology, their online social media profiles and their reputations on them. It may seem all fun and games to be sharing how you feel or what is going on in your life at that moment; on your social feeds, sharing pictures to family members you have not seen in a while, but this same fun and games can turn bad quickly. From sharing a picture of yourself and some friends at the beach, to getting mean comments like “You’re fat!”, and more harsh things like “You’re a slut for wearing that!”. These comments are considered bullying, but on social media it is cyberbullying. Just like face to face bullying, cyberbullying has the same effect on the person. With victims of cyberbullying committing suicide, going into a depression and developing anxiety is becoming a huge effect that social media has. For a teenager, all this depression, anxiety can lead them to commit suicide, cyberbullying is harmful for those who are victims. Social media is causing cyberbullying, through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., and resulting in harm to teenagers. Essay 3: Example ParagraphEven though cyberbullying is happening on social media online, and not face to face, it still can have the mental and physical harm that face to face bullying would have. As face to face bullying cyberbullying has the same psychological effects, which can be very harmful to the victim. Victims of cyberbullying start to believe that life is no longer worth living. For example, Peggy J. states in her article “Current Issues: Online Social Networking” that, “Cyberbullying can cause unbearable pain and suffering, even to the point that a victim believes life is no longer worth living.” If this is what the victims of cyberbullying are believing their lives are no longer worth living, it is a chance that they attempt suicide and go into a deep depression. Many teens have come to the point where they committed suicide or at least attempted it because they could not bear living with online cyberbullying no longer. For example, “Megan Meier: A 13-year-old Missouri girl who committed suicide after being repeatedly bullied?online?by a woman posing as a teenage boy”. (Peggy J.) If more teenagers are like Megan they will do the same, and commit sucide and be successfull at it. Not only are teenagers commiting suciced but they are turning to violence as well. Peggy J. also states in her article that, “Cyberbullying is hurtful enough an affecting kids enough that its victims have turned to suicide or violence just to make it stop.” Cyberbullying has such an impact on teenagers and effects them more and more than face to face bullying because it is so easy to spread a rumor on online social media. With violence comes depression, because many teenagers believe that their social media profiles are very important to them and their reputations as well. If their reputations are being messed with they start to become depressed because they are getting teased at school and online. An article states that “Victimization from schoolmates has been correlated with everything from depression and anxiety to thought of suicide and struggles with academics.” (“Research into Effects of Cyber Bullying..”) If one thing is being done to the teen from their classmates, it leads to many things. They might not be physically hit or shoved like face to face bullying is but can physically take a toll on teens, because they are going to extremes where many do cut themselves and also commit suicide. Cyberbullying has a very strong effect on teenagers not only on their reputations, their health, psychologically, but as well as physically. ................
