Job title: Student Placement: Social Media Assistant (6 months)

Service: External Relations Directorate

Location: Based at the Docklands Campus but will sometimes need to work on both Docklands and Stratford campuses

Grade: C

Responsible to: Social Media Manager

Liaison with: Head of Design and Digital, Campaign Manager, Digital & Content Officers, Head of Marketing and Marketing Executives, other colleagues in External Relations, schools and services; external businesses and stakeholders.

DEPARTMENT:

We are building an external relations directorate that will look to bring together an integrated Communications & Engagement and Student Recruitment & Marketing service. The directorate is made up of a number of teams including Communications & Engagement, Marketing, Recruitment and Conversion, Outreach and Access, Design and Digital, Events and Advancement and the International Office. We are looking for team members who will be part of embedding an innovative practice to our external relations and enjoy working in an agile environment as we try and work towards a culture of the ‘continuous new’. This is an exciting opportunity as we look at a corporate rebrand and launching Vision 2028 that is preparing our students communities for the skills required in Industry 4.0 and the world of Artificial Intelligence.

PLACEMENT:

This position is a six-month placement for a UEL student. You must meet the requirements for the placement through your UEL course and the placement is subject to the necessary sign-off by your school.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Social Media Manager; oversee production of our creative assets required to deliver successful marketing and customer experience campaigns across all marketing channels incl. advertising, digital, social media, email, prints and experiential.

The post holder will support the Social Media Manager and Campaigns Manager in overseeing progress of all campaigns and projects that require creative and digital outputs. Proactive liaison with staff members across the directorate of External Relations will be required to succeed in the role.

This is a role suitable for a marketeer with a keen interest in creative and digital development with high level of organisational, communication and project management skills. This is a crucial role in the department of External Relations, responsible for supporting the development of all campaigns and outputs that tell University of East London’s story to the outside world in an authentic, creative and emotive way.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To originate, organise and produce high-quality digital assets which attract internal and external audiences to UEL platforms and enhance the University’s reputation and brand;

• To tag the University assets in the asset back;

• Working across channels such as: Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, LinkedIn our corporate website and potentially other external media outlets, assisting in producing content that is appropriate for the audience, format, placement and channel;

• Focusing on social media and digital channels, monitoring external trends and approaches and sharing insight with the broader team to infuse innovation and creativity;

• To support in-house videos, web copy, infographics and social media content to promote key UEL messages externally and internally;

• To assist the Social Media Manager with on-the-day social media coverage of key university events including graduation, open days etc. Coverage will include phone photography, videography as well as live posts across all our platforms;

• To moderate all user-generated content across the key UEL social media platforms as well as carry out daily community management;

• To contribute creative ideas that makes content more engaging across social media;

• To assist in production of in-house content for UEL and managing relationships with key stakeholders internally;

• To support the production of digital content for the University website, intranet, plasma screens and, where appropriate, other channels such as those directed specifically at prospective and current students;

• As required, to work with the Digital and Content Manager and Officers to develop more engaging social media outputs which enhance the University’s brand and drive affiliate traffic to the website and other platforms;

• To deliver according to briefs and cascade briefs to other members of the team;

• Create all production paperwork including Risk Assessments, student ambassador booking, external and internal space bookings;

• To oversee the social media and digital calendars to ensure consistency and maximise reach across social media and external campaigns;

• Any other duties appropriate to the role, as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

Essential criteria;

• Creative or Media Degree; or equivalent experience; or alternative digital / marketing / design qualifications (A/C)

• Studying towards a UEL degree with a relevant placement available (A)

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Criteria:

• Experience of using social media, SEO and Content Management Systems to optimise traffic to the UEL website and other platforms (A/I)

• Experience of social media account management (A/I)

• Experience of using software for digital editing and filming (A/I)

• Familiarity with the basics of photography, video and design (A/I)

• Experience of writing copy for the web – creating engaging headlines and captions for digital content (A/I)
