BENEFITS OF A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
FOR NON-CITIZENS
? You need a Social Security Card to get a job (if you are authorized by DHS to work in the United States)
? You can report wages to the government to show eligibility for Social Security benefits.

FOR NATURALIZED CITIZENS
? You need a social security card to get a job, and to report wages to the goverment.
? Validates your U.S. citizenship status with federal and state governments.
? Easier in the future to apply for and receive all social security benefits entitled to you.
? In some states, certain disability benefits are only available to U.S. citizens. By changing your citizenship status with the Social Security Administration, you will ensure you receive all disability, retirement, and social security benefits for which you qualify as a U.S. citizen.
How to obtain your new or corrected card:
1. Complete Form SS-5. Available at: ssnumber, by calling (800) 772-1213, or at your local Social Security office.
2. Provide evidence of your identity, immigration, citizenship status, and work eligibility. Original documents or copies certified by issuing agency ONLY. Provide at least one of the documents accepted for each category below.
