• Carter got Israel and Egypt to sign a peace agreemment at Camp David.
• The fall of the Berlin Wall ended the Cold War.
• In 1991, the U.S. led the coalition in a war against Irag which won the Persian Gulf War.
• The U.S. led a coalition of nations into a war with Afghanistan, the War on Terrorism, in response to September 11, 2001.
• The impact the computer and Internet has on American life.
• The growth of high-tech jobs led to an improved economy.
• The Internet and other technology led to a more interdependent world.
• The dispersion of the economic activities in the U.S. since the turn of the century.
• The high-tech business boomed, there was more people working in service jobs, less people working in manufacturing jobs but companies produced more goods with machinery, farmers used more machines so less farmers.
• What contributed to the U.S. emerging from World War I as a world power.
• Originally, the U.S. became a world power after WWI. A reason for our economic boom was because of an increase in international trade during and after the war. Most European nations had borrowed money from the U.S. during the war. After the war, the repayments helped U.S. become the richest country in the world.
• Citizen responsibilities.
• Citizens have the resposibility to obey the law, pay taxes, serve on juries, and vote. Men over 18 years of age must register for military service. Young people are responsible for attending school.
• Freedoms from the Bill of Rights.
• The Bill of Rights includes freedom of speech, religion, and the right to a fair trial.
• Due process of law.
• The due process of law states that a citizen's life, liberty, or property cannot be taken away without a fair trial.
• How Constitution protects a citizen's rights by due process.
• The due process of law is declared in the fourteenth amendment. It was created after the Black Codes to protect rights granted to citizens through the Constitution.
• The amendment process as outlined in the Constitution.
• Amendments are proposed by 2/3 of the House and the Senate. 3/4 of the states must ratify an amendment.
• Purpose for the amendment process.
• The Amendment process makes sure that most people approve of any changes of the Constitution.
• Explain the meaning of "E pluribus unum" and the reason it's the U.S. motto
• "E pluribus unum" means "out of many one" It is a reminder that the original 13 colonies formed one country.
• Illustrate historical events using concepts of trade, opportunity cost, specialization, voluntary exchange, productivity, and price incentives.
• Trade between countries is called voluntary exchange. The G8 (Group of 8) nations increase voluntary exchange so all nations can benefit from it.
• A free-trade agreement is a treaty designed to increase trade by removing taxes or tariffs.
• U.S., Canada, and Mexico started NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) to remove most of the taxes on goods traded among the three countries.
• Canada and U.S. have similar histories and are important trading partners.
• Mexico and the U.S. have different cultures that they have shared across their common border. They share economic ties.
