Assistant Recovery Development Worker – North Lanarkshire

SALARY

£17,586 to £18,813 unqualified

£21,454 to £23,542 qualified

RESPONSIBLE TO

ASC’s Recovery Development Team Leader for line management and day to day operational direction and guidance

HOURS

Full-time (35 hours per week) and/or part-time (Hours to be agreed) with regular evening and weekend working required

DURATION

This is a temporary post until 1 April 2021 with the possibility of a further two year extension depending on the performance of the development work

AIMS OF POST

This post is based within ASC and the postholder shall work across North Lanarkshire in several locations to help develop a North Lanarkshire Recovery Community (NLRC). It is envisaged that the NLRC will be a geographical based community of people who are committed to making recovery from substance misuse a shared reality.

The postholder shall work under the direction of the Recovery Development Team Leader in providing a range of recovery focussed activities including the day to day running of local recovery cafes and recovery activities. The postholder shall help ensure that there is an effective, local, peer support network for people recovering from substance misuse. The postholder is also expected to apply the principles of a Recovery Orientated System of Care (ROSC) in his or her day to day work.

The postholder is also expected to provide some individual after care support to people in recovery from substance misuse that would involve care planning, monitoring and evaluation of individuals’ progress.

REQUIREMENTS

It is anticipated that this post will attract an individual with "lived" experience of recovery from substance misuse or addictive behaviours, such as problem gambling or someone who has been directly affected by another person’s substance misuse or addictive behaviours. Consideration would also be given to candidates who may have lived experience in recovering from mental health problems or who have been directly affected by someone else’s mental health problems.

It is a requirement of employment that the postholder successfully applies, undertakes and completes the SVQ Level 3 Social Services and Healthcare Qualification. The postholder’s progression towards achieving the Qualification will be monitored on a monthly basis.

MAIN DUTIES

The post holder is expected to;

1. Promote the benefits and value of peer engagement, peer support networks and the North Lanarkshire Recovery Community (NLRC) to people recovering from substance misuse, in order to encourage and support individuals to sustain their recovery.

2. Help identify community, neighbourhood and local resources that can support people affected by substance misuse to successfully participate in peer-led recovery initiatives.

3. Manage designated recovery cafes (and any other recovery cafes as required) through being the responsible key holder for the premises.

4. Ensure that any premises that are used for recovery cafes or regular recovery activities comply with any fire prevention, health and safety, security or management requirements.

5. Encourage and promote a range of recovery focussed, leisure, recreational and social activities within the recovery cafes.

6. Manage a petty cash float for the procurement of provisions for each recovery café.

7. Coordinate and oversee volunteers’ activities within the recovery cafes or any other regular recovery events as so required.

8. Participate in the assessment of individuals affected by substance misuse to help identify their personal, health and social care needs and to identify their recovery capital.

9. To work in collaboration with service users to produce appropriate care/recovery plans that respond to identified needs and that promote service user participation in changing behaviour and reducing the harm arising from substance misuse.

10. To help monitor and evaluate care/recovery plans and to encourage individuals to engage with recovery, volunteering, educational and vocational and employment opportunities.

11. To manage a caseload, to liaise with and refer to other professionals, practitioners and organisations and to participate in joint reviews or case conferences as required.

12. Ensure that all work plans, records and reviews are kept up to date and stored securely and that the electronic recording of performance indicators, statistical returns and monitoring data is carried out regularly and timeously.

13. Follow ASC’s policies and procedures and those of other agencies such as North Lanarkshire’s Child Protection Guidelines and the Scottish Government’s Quality Principles – Standard Expectations of Care and Support in Drug and Alcohol Services.

14. Adhere to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Code of Practice for Employees and to contribute towards ASC’s compliance with the SSSC Code of Practice for Employers.

15. Produce written reports on a periodic or regular basis pertaining to monitoring and evaluation of service performance including progress reports on recovery activities.

16. Attend internal and external meetings as required on a periodic and regular basis.

17. Maintain and develop personal development and learning plans as agreed locally and to be responsible for own professional development.

18. Carry out other duties and tasks that ASC might reasonably require.
